Microsoft sues more alleged Hotmail spammers

Microsoft has filed two lawsuits over the past weeks looking to crack down on spam on its Windows Live Hotmail network.

The "John Doe" lawsuits were filed against unknown alleged spammers who had been sending large quantities of spam advertising debt relief and adult Web sites to Hotmail accounts.

Microsoft alleges that a company doing business under the name Consumer Solutions Network sent "misleading, deceptive, and unsolicited commercial e-mails advertising debt relief help to Windows Live Hotmail account holders."

The spam contained subject lines such as "Michelle, accounts over the limit," or "Robert, Payment not received," the suit alleges.

Consumer Solutions Network, which could not be reached for comment on this story, operates several Internet domains including myfinancialsolutions.org, consumersolution.org, and financialsolutionsonline.org, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft has also sued unnamed defendants for sending spam that promoted pornographic Web sites through Hotmail. Microsoft claims that these spammers not only flooded Hotmail accounts with unwanted messages, but also used Hotmail itself to send large volumes of spam. "Many of defendants' illegal e-mail messages were sent using ... accounts obtained through false or fraudulent pretenses," Microsoft claims.

Companies like Microsoft, AOL, and Earthlink have launched a large number of these lawsuits in recent years, said Venkat Balasubramani, the principal of Balasubramani Law, and author of the Spam Notes blog. "They serve a deterrent purpose, and they also can be a mechanism for investigation. You can issue subpoenas and dig around a little bit to find what's going on," he said.

Microsoft has filed such lawsuits on an almost-monthly basis over the past year, he added.

In April and May of this year it filed similar lawsuits against several alleged stock scammers.

These latest lawsuits were filed in King County Superior Court in Seattle. The Consumer Solutions Network lawsuit was filed on June 13. The suit relating to pornographic spam was filed on Tuesday of this week.

Apocalypse!!! is this for SURE??

Few days ago, people beaten him up just for misleading themselves, the foolish sheepish inhabitants of Kathmandu. His fault was that he publicly declared, that there would be enormous earthquakes in Kathmandu which would kill thousands of people. When nothing happened(something was happen though, his swollen face structures on TV News clearly showed them), people put their rage on him. Now, we really don't know if he was right or wrong but still he is claiming from the cell, and warning us ' see till this ASHAR 26th '. I wasn't really caring his statements. As soon as his prediction was to take form, nothing in Kathmandu happen but something bad was happening in our neighboring country Pakistan. Flood,Wind took many lives there. Next day, it was the headlines. Anyway, that's not my concern.

Now, these days, i'm getting chill on my nerve because, i've been reading/listening news of apocalypse not only from the mouth of that so-called TRISHUL BABA, but also from different sources. Now, the whole world is taking this thing seriously. I mean Apocalypse, will there really be the end of the world?? by end of the world , i meant, the eradication of the entire civilization. Like those dinosaurs age. I don't know what you guys may think but i'm into this thinking these days. Consider yourself so many cases of unrests in different parts of world. See those never-ending palestine-Israel wars, Al-qaeda,Muslim terrorists etc. This conflict is dragging other big nations alongside. I really really don't have any idea whats going on but i'm writing something with proofs.

There is a writer(Joseph)who wrote a book "Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation Into Civilization's End" You can visit http://www.apocalypse2012.com for more info. According to this book, world will end in 2012, the year which is not very far.
From the site:
"Devastating earthquakes. Record-breaking tsunamis. Category 5 hurricanes. Spiking global temperatures. World war. Predictions of how it will all end have been around for thousands of years. In Apocalypse 2012, Lawrence E. Joseph reveals the curious fact that 2012 has been pinpointed as a pivotal, perhaps cataclysmic, year in human history by ancient sources and contemporary science alike.

Joseph investigates this chilling correlation with an open mind and skeptical eye. He delves into historical and spiritual materials as diverse as Revelations, the I Ching, and the Islamic Hadith, drawing on scholarly works and recent controversial bestsellers such as The Bible Code. He examines the ancient Mayan Long Calendar, the source of the 2012 prophecies, and then travels to the jungles and highlands of Guatemala to work with Mayan shamans who confirm the 5,000-year-old vision. In a scientific research city in the heart of Siberia, he meets with geophysicists who contend that the solar system is moving into a highly charged interstellar energy cloud. And on the tip of South Africa, he interviews physicists and psychics who are trying to make sense of the fact that the earth’s magnetic field is vanishing.

Joseph concludes that we are in a race against time. Apocalypse 2012 is an authoritative and deeply unsettling appraisal of just how close the earth, or at least our species, might be to extinction.
"

Now the things i wrote above were done by some contemporary writer based on his own analysis. I've another fact that too boldly claims the end of the world. This fact or prediction tells us that World will end by 2060. This prediction was done by Sir ISAAC NEWTON hundreds of years ago.

The followings are the Newton's very handwritten materials predicting the world end(click images for larger view):

FIONA MACRAE elaborated more on this regard as ,
"His famously analytical mind worked out the laws of gravity and unravelled the motion of the planets. And when it came to predicting the end of the world, Sir Isaac Newton was just as precise. He believed the Apocalypse would come in 2060 – exactly 1,260 years after the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire, according to a recently published letter. Luckily for modern scientists in awe of his achievements, Newton based this figure on religion rather than reasoning.

In a letter from 1704 which has gone on show in Jerusalem’s Hebrew University, Newton uses the Bible’s Book of Daniel to calculate the date for the Apocalypse. The note reveals a deeply spiritual side to a man more usually regarded as a strict rationalist. Newton, known as the founder of modern physics, secured a royal exemption from ordination in the Church of England – something normally expected of academics in his day – so he would not have to follow its teachings. But he confidently stated in the letter that the Bible proved the world would end in 2060, adding: "It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner."

Continuing in a decidedly sniffy tone, he wrote: "This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail."

The exact words from the Book of Daniel that inspired his prediction are not clear. But he got at least one thing right – in another document, he interpreted biblical prophecies to mean that the Jews would return to the Holy Land before the world ended. Newton, who died 280 years ago, wrote that the end of days would see "the ruin of the wicked nations, the end of weeping and of all troubles, the return of the Jews (from) captivity and their setting up a flourishing and everlasting Kingdom".

Yemima Ben-Menahem, one of the curators of the exhibition, said: "These documents show a scientist guided by religious fervour, by a desire to see God’s actions in the world." The papers – including more prosaic notes about his income and the price of tin – lay in a trunk at the house of the Earl of Portsmouth for 250 years before being auctioned in the late 1930s. Since 1969, many have been locked away in Israel’s national library. "

Archive of more than 20,000 books digitized and free for use.

Anyone who contributed towards the digitization of books, thanks to them. Though, i'm not quite a book reader, there is immense usability of keeping books in digital format. We can use it as reference in future and am pretty much sure, it helps us save cutting of trees and forests for printing those books in hard form on and on.

There are so many peoples around me, who are very fond of reading books, novels etc. I'm not sure if they like reading it on computer monitor for long or so but to see the current context, life is going digital. I mean today, nobody can lead a way of living without being digital. Carrying Cellphone, laptop is must to exist in today's official scenario without which dreaming about world is almost impossible. From the paper oriented conventional office environment, thanks to digital era, now it's not unusual to see paperless office. I was quite happy when the Information and Communication Minister K.B Mahara, few weeks ago stated that he would put all his efforts to make all ministries paperless. If not, he is quite sure to make his own ministry , a paperless office within few months. That's a positive initiative. With paperless office, its meant to keeping all records in hard disk, not in bunch of piles of dust storing folders and desks. With this, retrieving information will be more scientific and more accurate, faster office operation is added benefit.

When we read a book, to find certain words or paragraph, we've to check on indexes and then flip pages accordingly. If not, intelligently we can keep bookmark paper slides. But when that book goes digital, within a few seconds we can reach anywhere, any part of the book. That's how fast digital ebook or any written materials work for us.

Due to long time staring at monitor, lots of complains regarding the eye stress, headaches are made. Now, what's the use of that benefit which comes along with the sufferings. So, people has started creating electronic portable ebook readers. Some worked just on Sun's solar power and some worked for battery's power. They are still expensive gadgets to own and quite not popular. So, people from china started writing novel off the mobile phone. I don't remember that guy's name but he set the record of writing first novel ever in mobile devices. Now, mobile phone software developer started writing small mobile applications to read books through it. It's so good. I sometimes read books(tech related mostly) from my mobile phone lying in the bed and it's so nice and i thank to technology for bringing that facility. Now, these days, PDA,Blackberry,Cell phones can equally read thousands of pages of book. We must thank to those people who brought us such benefits.

Electronic devices like this is our future books, when students will just carry something like this in near future instead of bags full of heavy books and copies

So, what's the clue of this writing here. Well, there is a downloadable archive of nearly over 20,000 great books. These books were once in hard copy but some people started digitizing it since 70's and today we've over 20,000 great books available to read free of charge. If someone is searching for classic best seller which is out of print or not readily available in second-hand sales can dig this database. It's called Project Gutenberg.

File Sharing on Ares

File sharing across the networks is not a new thing these days. Even a kid with internet access knows how to send and receive files, programs etc. File Sharing is different than downloading. Because, File sharing involves simply two parties where uploading and downloading takes place at the same time. That means any two persons with online connectivity can share their harddisk's contents. Imagine what would happen if similar group of people starts to gather and starts sharing files. A network for file sharing would form.

Previously, the sharing of files was based on centralized system. That means particular server was put into extreme usage. Download was possible only after making request to server. Remember the Napster?? that's how it works. But, after it shared music mp3s, it was ceased to exit by MPAA and various other organisations related to music industry. They accused them of loss of billions of dollars. I don't know how they calculated that figure but yeap, it was loss there anyhow. Since people shared music illegally. Illegally because, even those who didn't own the original CD of music, they started to get it free. So, getting patented materials for free is definitely a crime, a steal. If i get free something from my neighbours house without neighbours consent, it's steal. Same logic applies to music files, not music files but almost all patented(software or in digital form) things.

So, there was no any hope to form another same site like Napster. Because, sooner or later, those MPAA would find them and make innumerous charges.

Now, the coders found different way, and they came up with a different idea. Decentralized online file sharing system. That means, now, no single server will be there to take care of these businesses, there will be virtually millions of networked computers acting that way. This is almost impossible to snatch millions of networked computers. But, not to forget, it's still crime to download illegal mp3 and contents in USA. If federal finds you are doing that, you'll be headed towards jail for long time.

In formal language, it's called peer-to-peer or client-to-client file sharing. Sometimes, one client acts as a server , sometimes as a client itself. So, peer-to-peer networking is network which distributes the storage, bandwidth etc between the members of the same network. Now, the previous limitation of centralized file sharing is removed. Every PC can act as a server and client in this networking and sharing files, softwares, music, movies became easy.

Kazaa, bearshare, limewire,Gnutella etc are some network based on this peer-to-peer sharing system and they've their own clients for use on desktop computer. Using that client software on desktop PC, virtually anyone can share files online.

Well, one of the major problem with these online sharing is the fake contents or spam contents or sometimes even malware(virus, trojans, spywares, worms etc) contents. These days, when we search particular items, the objects searched or found are infested with bogus content or beyond the intended application we are searching for. Lets say, if i'm searching for ELVIS PRESLEY video or anything related to him, i started downloading of around 11 mb media file, it got downloaded but when i see the content, it's some sort of bizarre sex scenes. We've to be very careful while downloading these contents since it's no where to what we expect to see.

There is new kid on the block. Ares. I think Ares network doesn't contain such bogus items or contents. I tried it with couple of things in mind and the things i got, they are for real. Try for yourself, forget about bearshare, limewire for the time being. They are full of craps.

According to http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/ ,
Ares is a free open source file sharing program that enables users to share any digital file including images, audio, video, software, documents, etc.

Regards
Happy sharing.

Sunita L. Williams : First Indian lady to break all Space records

Yesterday, Indian channels elaborately aired the live telecast of Atlantis Shuttle landing on earth. The specialty of the show or say the main attraction of all Indian channels was Sunita Williams, an Indian Astronaut. I came to know she broke couple of previous records like she stayed 6 months alone in space and she did longest space-walking(spaceflight). Before no female astronaut were able to do that. Yesterday, she's the center of attraction.

It was amazing experience to witness how a dot like thing in blue sky turned to flying metal bird Atlantis shuttle. In wholesome, it took around 16 minutes for shuttle to land on earth from space. It was supposed to land on Florida airport but due to climatic change, it has to change it's path and land on California airport.

While entering earth's atmosphere, shuttle has to go through immense resistance causing lots of friction to it's metal body which has special scientific coating to prevent burning down. Even after landing on earth, shuttle was calm for few minutes and no one easily approached the shuttle because, it was commented that shuttles surface could've brought some sort of radiation or harmful gases alongside. So, scientists were on protection suit while inspecting the shuttle which was on total halt.

It is told, those astronauts will be taken to hospital for medical checkup due to immediate change in the environment.

Below are the pictures of her:

Web Operating System

There was a 'hallah(rumor)' of Google Operating System few months ago. I was wondering what it could be and searching through net and i came through strange era being used in net.. Web Operating System.

Web Operating System is something which mimics the real Operating System like Windows, Linux in interface and there are small sets of utilities which we can use to perform our day to day stuff like saving files, keeping records, logs, etc.

The difference is Web Operating System would still need the Base Operating system because it loads off the web browser. So, without web browsers, lets not imagine it's existence.

I tried couple of webOS, i couldn't verify certain features on my browsers because those webOS needed POPUP-BLOCKER to be set free which i didn't like and quit of thinking about it.

I found one webOS which is called CrayThur(www.craythur.com) and it's pretty usable and not so complicated to use either. Just signup, get activation code and start personalizing your stuff. Wherever you go, there is your OS at your service.

Logging in to the webOS

Note: at first i was confused how to start those icons, but you've to do real double-click to get stuff working.

Muni Bahadur Shakya

Nepal's ICT (information communication technology) sector has no dearth of genius people. Muni Bahadur Shakya is such a figure whose innovations fetch pride and kudos both at the national and international levels. Known as Bhismapitambah (a famous character in the Mahabharat epic) in the sector, Shakya has pioneered in several IT genres.

Microcomputer (1979), development and integration of devanagari (Nepali scripts) into computer (1983), development of basic input output system (BIOS) (1982), establishment of computer manufacturing plant (1995) and Nepali-versioned super computer and robots (2006) are among his innovations.

When he made super computer last year, a large number of people especially young students, made a beeline at his factory that displays his new inventions. All the day he had been busy briefing about them.

"Everybody wanted me to tell about the super computer and I really enjoyed in furnishing the curiosities of the curious students," Shakya recalled the people's attraction to his discoveries.

He made a super computer by combining memory and speed of 16 computers.

"It takes half an hour to complete a task that a general computer takes 8 hours," he says.

It costs around Rs. 1 million to make a super computer.

Talking about the benefits of super computer in the Nepalese context, he says that it is highly useful for the banking sector and weather forecasting.

"In both areas, people have to process a large number of data that a general computer is unlikely to function effectively," he adds.

He says that the Meteorology Department badly needs super computer for an accurate forecasting.

"There are about 24 satellites active in space and send million of data to the earth. If the department has a powerful and efficient computer to analyse such data quickly, it can predict precisely."

Not only the weather forecast, he said, it is equally important for the financial forecasting.
He says, "They cannot buy time in computing where the things should be done within an allotted time."

Asked about the response on his innovation, he maintains that concerned people have realised the need of super computer but they complained about the lack of sufficient budget.

One of the factors behind not adopting the super computer is the inadequate priority to new technology and lack of know-how, he said.

"My objective is to highlight the importance of research and development (R&D) in the economic development. It is up to the government and the private sector to adopt the new technology to expedite works fast and efficiently," he said.

A few years back the government planed to import a super computer from India for the Department but the plan was never materialised. According to the sources, it did not accept the Indian offer of super computer as donation as it was an old model and would prove a white elephant because of its high in maintenance and repairing costs. This super computer is a big in size and consumes much electricity.... (More inside)

He said that the US-based IBM Company had manufactured the biggest super computer known as IMB Gene/L that has memory and processing power of a combined 65,536 computers. Its speed is 138.5 teraflop. One teraflop contains 1,000 gigabits.

"The concept of super computer is a relative matter. The super computer made in 1960 had less capacity than a desk computer of today," he added.

Dwelling on his robot innovations, he said that artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are the key two inherent qualities of robots.

Students of Pulchowk Engineering Campus also made robots but they operate on manual basis and lacked automation and AI.

"These students are also doing well but they lack the proper know-how on incorporating the elements of automation and AI," he said.

A veteran IT expert, Muni is not satisfied with the government's ICT policy.

He shared his bitter experiences during the years when he took initiatives to establish the first ever computer plant in Nepal.

He said, "If the government had provided as much facilities as it gave to set up factories of cigarettes and alcohol, my computer factory would have developed into full-fledged one by now," he said.

I asked the then finance minister Dr. Ram Saran Mahat to grant certain concession in the import of IT spare parts but he was not positive about my request, he said.

"If the government offers concessions to you, everybody will line up to take the benefits," he quoted Mahat as saying.

With its entry into World Trade Organisation (WTO), Nepal announced zero tariffs in the import of computer accessories.

"However, the government has not still brought tariff to zero per cent," he noted.

He said that his plant had capacity to produce 50,000 computers annually if it operated fully.

It uses about 40 per cent home made products in manufacturing computers.

"Nepal annually needs 50,000 computers, which my plant can meet," he claims.

Established in the collaboration of Taiwanese national, the factory that offers jobs to 20 people is now struggling for survival.

"I could not develop it as per my concept in the absence of proper atmosphere," he admits.
When Muni developed and integrated Nepali devanagari into computer system, India had not done so. Indian experts used to come to his residence for the know-how.

"About two decades back, Nepal and India ranked same but now India has gone far ahead in the ICT field largely due to its policy to promote the sector. What we need is the visionary leader to take the ICT into new height," he said.

When he returned Nepal in 1979 after completing his study in France, the officials at the Tribhuvan International Airport searched his bags thinking he must have brought some expensive foreign items but in vein. Muni had really brought one precious thing with him. It was hidden in his brain, not in his bag. It was his great concept of microcomputer that was just invented in the world.

He became first person to make microcomputer in Nepal.

Muni now runs High Tech Pioneer Private Limited that provides variety of services such as hardware, software, ISP and networking to the customers.

Last year he won the RONAST Award for his contribution to the sector.

"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer " releasing today

With the advent of the computer and it's prowess, now, impossible is becoming possible not only in real-life application but also into portraying ones imagination into nearly life-like visually appealing scenes and effects within the movies. Now, it's hard to differentiate between real and unreal.

Many years ago, the superhero characters which were just limited to mere comics books and stories being unraveled only on the flip of pages, has come to nearly life-like experiences. Movies portrays the depiction of real life happenings. But with fantasy and sci-fi movies bombarding the stores, it makes us feel if that's for real or what after we watch them. But whatever, i must give hat offs to those great effect gurus and computer geek who brought us this wonderful viewing experiences. Batman,Superman,SpiderMan,X-men,The Spawn,The Phantom,Fantastic Four etc.. these all are into movies now.

And today, June 15, 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' is releasing all over the world . This movie is sequel to previous Fantastic Four. As i saw the promos and making of this movie, it'll be a great experience watching this movie.

Stars like Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon, Kerry Washington, Andre Braugher and Gonzalo Menendez are in this movie and the superhero team includes in the movie as:

Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, who can elongate his body;

Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, who not only can become invisible at will but can render other objects invisible;

Johnny Storm / Human Torch, who can shoot fire from his finger tips and bend flame; and

Ben Grimm / The Thing, a hideously misshapen monster with superhuman strength.

Have fun watching it.
