Adding Audio to my blogger blog

I was finding a way to embed audio in blogger. And i found www.vudyo.com. I signed up there and created username for me to upload songs. I uploaded my first Audio, a hindi song, very cool and romantic song which was sung by Meiyang Chang in Indian idol. I was searching for that song and i found it, listen to it again and again and uploaded it.

This song 'unkahi' is dedicated to Prerana
Right now, i finished embedding it to my blogger post and it is working great. The only flaw i found is there was 'Upload Video' option. I thought 'Upload Audio' would be there but I didn't get it and thought not to bother much. Since my work is done and i can only wish vudyo.com correct such minor issues in coming days. Or may be i'm wrong about that because i need to explore all the contents of this site in time.
Should be 'upload Audio' button, i guess

Today GAI JATRA !!!

Today, GaiJatra, a Nepalese festival where procession of cows is marched around the city with all the wicked attires and it's National Holiday too. I don't know much about this festival but i know that it is celebrated in the memory of parents who passed away long time ago. It is also said, one should participate this festival whose family member has passed away within a last one year. Besides, people makes jokes, fun and mock people with their funny and humorous attire and gestures. Girl dresses like a guy, guy dresses like a girl, some where even made-up as a cow. Those participating, splash water to attenders who watches them, they run away and are chased and again this goes on and on. This kindda looks crazy but people enjoy this festival.

Besides, this is the day or say season when major publications publishes humorous colorful magazines satiring all the present context of the country from Politics to students, household, culture everything. Magazines are filled with funny cartoons and wicked articles. This is a funny festival where people tease others and at the same time pay tribute to their passed away one.

These are some funny pictures below: -

It says in English, "Tyre Puncture here". Who would go there to puncture their vehicles tyre.

Nepal Telecom tricks it's customer to pay undue amounts

This is a newspaper cutting sliced into three images for better viewing. In this, a guy named Sushil Dhungana feels he's robbed by Nepal Telecom.

His telephone bills showed huge amounts when he had not made any calls. He went to make an inquiry and he found out that his calls were made to Spice Nepal numbers(another Privately own service provider in Nepal competing Nepal Telecom). So, he remained inactive(making no calls) that month.

Following month, he didn't call at all except he was to pay ownership charges only. But to his dismay, the bill was even more than those of previous months records. He was very furious, rushed to telecom office, complained and asked about all the call-logs to get in hand but those Telecom people didn't give him any call-logs saying him, they didn't have it.

He doubts their credibility. If they know where and when and to which number we called, then how come they not know that call-log to provide to it's customer when needed. He thinks surely there is something fishy going on. He felt robbed. Today, SPICE NEPAL pvt Limited is providing very quality and affordable mobile phone services to it's customer than Nepal Telecom. May be it's Nepal Telecom's devious marketing strategy to discourage people to use Spice Nepal's service by letting them pay undue amounts just because they made calls from Nepal Telecom number to Spice Nepal numbers. This is the mere translation of this Nepalese News cutting.

As always, Nepal Telecom Sucks!!!

I've found out Nepal Telecom's atrocities before and posted it to my blog at here, here and here too. And, once they plead to help them. I think nobody would be interested to help them. Because they've always looted peoples with unnecessary tax and now there are better service provider than them. Still being nations first Telecom, i expect they really improve unexpectedly. May be one day, i'll be writing in favor of them.

My first Portable harddrive

..I've been trying to get all my data transferred to portable harddrive 80 GB(i bought it for NRs 4900). i created two partitions using 'compmgnt.msc' from the Run command in Windows XP. From that computer management, storage--> Disk management and rest was self-clear. I was trying to encrypt my data and i stumbled upon 'TrueCrypt', an opensource Encryption software. There were two options of encryption, one is selecting/naming file, creating a dump storage(volume) and mounting it with the help of 'TrueCrypt' software itself. Second option is to encrypt the entire partition/device. I selected Second Option and right now it's formatting and encrypting that drive uhh second partition. It has been running since 20 minutes and progress bar shows 30 more minutes to goo.. ughhh.. dunno, what's wrong but to me this speed of formatting is very slow. But file transfer was pretty good, 480mbps. I really liked it. I just wanted that if i plug in the drive, to access the encrypted partition it would ask me password else not. Lets see, if it works that way or not.

So many foreigners come here and buys hundreds of movies and softwares worth millions dollar for just mere few thousand bucks. This is not my saying but one of the dealer in MahaBoudha China market says. He told me that when i asked him if he could buy all the DVDs/CDs i bought from him at nominal second hand price. His advise was not bad. I returned back. Despite, there I wanted to burn my own DVD's but that's almost not possible because, it's way too many DVDs that i may end up burning all my data up. So, this portable harddrive came to rescue. lets see it doesn't deceive me when i need some of my softwares back through it.

yesterday, i watched Transformer the movie. My small cousin brothers already have the toys of Megatron, Optimus Prime etc. The movie was damn cool. i really liked all the effects and the story too. i came to know surfing for a while that it's originally comics. Just like spiderman, batman etc. I've become it's fan because of the special effects.

Ycopy - Intelligent File copying Tool

According to Ron White,
"File copying tool is great for large scale copying and will skip files it can't handle without coming to a halt.

You have to copy a few hundred gigs worth of files from one place to another. Because this will take a few hours, you decide to take a long lunch while the files migrate.

Three hours and four banana margaritas later, you return to find the copy operation choked on the tenth file because the file was open on another screen, or had an error, or was read-only. All your computer has been doing while you were gone is display a message asking you what to do about it. This is when we know computers are not like people.

Even the dumbest human would put aside copying that one file until you returned. So will Ycopy. When Ycopy finds a file it can't handle, it makes a note about it, and moves on to the next file. When you get back from lunch, you still have to do something with the recalcitrant files manually, but at least all the other files are taken care of. "

Manhunt 2 releasing soon

Manhunt is a game with extreme violence, blood and gore. Once, i've watched my brother playing this extremely violent games in PS2 where a player has to execute his enemies and game progresses. Methods of killing included crushing heads, beheading victims and more. Moreover, it's very eerie and creepy feelings to see player hang his enemies' head around his belt like a grenade bomb. That was hellava scary. At that time, i read news about following the same way to execute his own friend and later the murderer kid jailed. Upon inquiry, he told he was inspired by Manhunt games and so the reason was enough to ban this game all over the world in different regions. Rockstar is quite infamous for creating scandalous game titles.

Now, the sequel of Manhunt is ready with the new title called 'Manhunt 2' set to release by the end of this coming October world wide. It'll be available for PS2,PSP and Wii. So, saddd, not for PC though. And it's rated 'M' by ESRB.

10 Things To Do After Coming To The USA
(Extracted from Shashi Lakkaraju's article)

A day or two after you have landed in the US, there are some things that need immediate attention and others that can wait. Here is a list of top ten things that you need to do , if you get a job in the US and need to stay here for an extended period of time.

01-Social Security Card-It does not cost anything to get a social security card, however it is impossible to do anything else without it. Your Social Security number is the unique number assigned to you and everything that you do in the US such as applying for a loan, paying taxes etc. Having a card is necessary for everyone.

02-Drivers License-Obtaining a drivers license is important because at drivers license is accepted as a common form of identification in US. There is a vision test, written test and a road test involved in getting a drivers license. Contact the local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office. The whole process may take some time, therefore initiate the process as soon as you can.

03-Opening a bank account-Opening a bank account is important so that you can have a cheque book to pay for your rent, utility bills etc and also for your salary to get credited to your account.

04-Health Insurance-It is extremely important to have your health insurance as soon as possible. Medical bills are steep in this country and not having a health insurance can lead to a lot of problems. Your employer should be providing you health insurance if that is the case make sure you have it as soon as you can. Some employers expect you to get your own insurance and expect you to pass the bill on to the employer in which case you need to get one immediately.

05-Credit Card-It helps to have a credit card in this country, however since you will not have any credit history in the country, it is not easy to get one. Some credit card agencies will ask you to deposit some money and issue you a credit card against the money. Even if that is the case, get the credit card so that you can start establishing your credit in the country.

06-Calling Card-If you are new to the country, you are going to miss friends and family back home. Look for calling cards to dial Nepal. Calling cards allow you the flexibility to dial from anywhere and also since you pay the money upfront, you are not likely to run into a situation where you are caught unawares as to how much money you are spending on your phone calls. Shop around for these cards, the best place to get them is in the Indian grocery store or visit site like www.nepalnews.com classified for cheap calling card in Nepal.

07-Apartment hunting-Now that you are slowly settling in, you need an apartment. Start hunting for apartments, most Amercian grocery stores have freely booklets available on apartments in the region. These booklets provide all the information that you need, shortlist the ones that meet your financial needs, your location requirements etc.

08-Find an Indian Grocery shop-Finding an Indian Grocery shop nearby is very helpful if you plan to cook Indian food at home and if you need a calling card to call Nepal

09-Apply for an account with a Credit Union-It is easy to get car loans from Credit Unions, if you intend buying a car in the near future, it is worthwhile to open an account with a Credit Union. Even though there are several advertisements on getting car loans at low rates, with no credit history in the country, it is not easy to get any of these loans.

10-Get a telephone connection-While calling cards are good for calling Nepal, there are deals with leading telephone companies such as AT& T, MCI etc for making calls to Neal. Also a telephone connection will help in getting in touch with friends and family within the United States.

Anti-Mosquitoes programs for Windows XP

These two programs from two different developers produces sound in the range of 16000Hz to 20000Hz which is beyond the audiable range of humans pests and other animals can though hear the same. This sound produces an undesirable effect on mosquitos and other pests thus restrains them from flying near you.

SEA Anti-Mosquitoes XP v2.0

KP Anti-mosquitoes V1.0
As soon as program starts running, mosquitoes will not fly around. Turn the speaker On and set any of these two softwares on running in tray.

One user said," IT WORKS! Thirty seconds after installation, I was enjoying the first truly comfortable night in my office.

Here in the midwest, we are troubled .. nay, tormented by insects so tiny they are called no-see-ums (biting midges). They arrive in spring and remain until the first heavy frost.

Attracted to light, the critters will wiggle through the smallest window screen fabric and navigate spaces between closed windows. Insecticides have not helped; mosquito repellent has not helped. You, on the other hand, have offered the first viable solution!

BLESS YOU .. I can finally enjoy warm summer nights again.

R. I . P Elvis A. Presley (30th Death Anniversary)

A tribute to the great king of rock n roll 'Elvis Aaron Presley' - R. I . P . I was supposed to post this few days ago but i was going through under big pressure and depression due to hell of a works.
I've been his big fan since the time i've known his music and songs, precisely since my childhood. I came to know about his songs, when my grandmother used to play his songs and used to make me dance on the rhythm. I enjoyed and i insisted only on his music ever since. Then i joined college and i started to find about the music i used to listen. Officially, i found the name Elvis Presley as the man of voice behind the magnetic music and songs. And, i started collecting his albums , more and more, i Watched couple of his movies and i read all his biographies. His life is truly inspiring and how he presented himself to the world. Starting as a struggler to fame-name charismatic life, he has everything to be inspired of. When i read about other of his fans, who still don't believe he's dead. I'm not one of them. Because, he had been dead for 30 years and it's the reality, bitter reality. But still, he's alive deep inside all of us who thinks he's a great human being and a great idol. I feel glad when people impersonate him, i can't do that because of my social structure but surely i would love to visit his home, graceland one day at my own expense.

Elvis Presley was born in Jan,8,1935 and he was found dead at his own home at graceland in Aug,16,1977. During the time of his death, it was really shocking to find out that he was badly addicted to some sort of prescribed drugs that led him to death. Whatever, he will be my role model/idol for ever. His songs are so great, so melodious and so rocking. Needless to say, before him, there was nothing like sensational music. Even John Lennon said once, "Before Elvis, there was nothing." It won't be a lie if i write here, Elvis Presley is daddy of all rock music today including today's various genres like blues, metal,RnB,pop, hiphop, etc.

Listen/Download latest Bollywood songs

I had been visiting www.funmaja.com for all my mobile phone stuffs. Be it ringtones, games, screensavers, movie clips or whatever it takes for mobile phones, www.funmaja.com was my favourite hangout. This site is brought to you by a group of Pakistani youngsters. All the contents out there are not for legal distribution but anyone can go and download the softwares, screensavers, games, ringtones for free.

Now, if i'm not wrong the same guys brought another site www.songs.pk. I don't know when this site is up and right now, feeling pretty lazy to 'whois' on them either. The only purpose of this site is to feed you with the latest bollywood songs. Go there and dig in as much as possible latest bollywood songs. I'm not promoting illegal activities and if you really like songs out there, you should purchase them. Though, you can't easily download songs from there. They've put the songs in embedded format that means as soon as you click the song title, it starts to play off the browser using audio web plugins(i.e quicktime plugin). So, once the song is buffered, it's ready to listen. But do you know how to download songs??

Song buffering

There are 3 methods to save multimedia contents:

i) by accessing cache folder of browsers

Normally, when we finished watching or listening to online multimedia contents, we think it's gone but actually, it's there temporarily in cache folders of the browsers. So, we can retrieve them anytime. If you watch Youtube video or listen to any multimedia files, all those buffered contains sits in cache folder.

In Internet Explorer, it's easy to download the multimedia contents that have been watched on browser.
- Go to 'Temporary Internet Files' folder like below(Note the folder 'User', it could be your account name, 'User' is my default, since i've no account created for myself on my XP. Replace 'User' with your account name in XP)

-Right click the 'Temporary Internet Files' and you'll see there is no 'search' on it. So, cache folder is not searchable. I've listened to song "chake_de.mp3". So, i would access the folder and manually search and select the song . Then copy it to some safe location on my harddrive.

In Mozilla Firefox, it's hard to trace the files you've viewed on browsers. In the address bar, type "about:cache" and hit enter key. You'll see the information about cache folder. Follow it. Once you reach the cache folder of firefox, you'll have to make guess work about your possible multimedia content by yourself. I downloaded 'chak_de.mp3' and i estimated it is about 4 mb. So, on the cache folder, check the file size, once confirmed, copy it to safe location and change the file extention to mp3. That's it.

ii) by using Download Managers

While your song is being buffered, check the internet browser for file location immediately. Copy that location, use any download manager, and give the URL address on it and download it off the Download manager. I used Download Accelerator plus(DAP) and my song instantly started to get downloaded. As soon as, the download started in DAP , i closed the one that is being buffered.

iii) by using Quicktime plugin itself

If your song is being buffered, as soon as it is completed, check the right-most icon. Click it and select 'save as source', give the location and your file is saved. I think this is the easiest option if your plugins give you the save option else you've to follow the step i) or step ii) accordingly.

Download old and new Comics of your super heroes or any other character

Everyone knows that the internet is a treasure chest for software, music and videos, but did you know you can find comic books on the web as well? There is a large group of people that scan and upload comics both old and new. This can be a revisiting of one's childhood or the beginning of a new hobby. Finding these is as simple as pulling up Google and letting the hunt begin.

Most comics on the internet have a .cbr or .cbz extension for use with a digital comic reader like CDisplay (Windows) or FFView (MacOS). However you can decompress the files and read them in any image viewer. Simply rename the cbr extension to rar or the cbz extension to zip and decompress with an application such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.

To look for these files, use these searches:

Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" comics cbr
or -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" comics cbz

The extension is sometimes left alone and kept as a rar or zip file.

To look for these files, use these searches:

Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" comics rar
or -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" comics zip

For title specific searches, substitute the title for the word comics in your search.

Examples:
-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" spider-man cbr
and -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" simpsons cbr

While some directories will only contain a few comics, there are others that will keep you reading for weeks and weeks.

Charge Nokia Phone using Peepal Leaves - HOAX

Referring to a news by National News Agency,Nepal, few Newspaper daily made headlines regarding 'Charge Nokia battery using Two peepal leaves'.According to this hoax, using two peepal leaves and attaching it to the charging nodes of nokia battery, would charge the battery within 10 seconds. I see no botanical explanation how is it possible. I've read some facts about bio-gas,that's proven and practical things. But regarding this
hoax, i don't know why people are not using their common sense. Those unprocessed peepal leaves would do no way the miracle.

To my dismay, some popular blogs of Nepal have emphasized on this topic. May be researchers are not interested on this type of hoax or may be not releasing any Public notice because of falling prey to such hoax. There is no scientific reason at all if it's possible. If it would work that way, i'm sure, a mobile phone company would loose a part of their mobile accessory manufacturing profits.

Lastly, don't fall for such hoax. If you've tried or experimented using peepal leaves to charge your Nokia Cell phone, then i don't blame you. First time mistake is human nature, Second time committing mistake is stupid and third time committing mistake is 100% fool stamp. Don't be a fool.

Nokia issues global warning on BL-5C battery

Yesterday, i was watching an Indian News channel Star News and i was astonished to find out that all the Nokia phones using battery with BL-5C label are at high risk of explosion at any time due to heat or while charging or while talking. Nokia has found this defect on all the batteries manufactured during Dec 2005 to Nov 2006. I just checked battery on my Nokia and it's BL-5C, i'm at high risk.

What about yours?? have you read news about mobile explosion, of course.

The following is the Nokia's official press release on this regard:

Dear Nokia Customer,

This is a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia battery.

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.

Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.

Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia's knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

While the occurence in the BL-5C batteries produced by Matsushita in the time-period specified is very rare, for consumers wishing to do so, Nokia and Matsushita offer to replace for free any BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

The BL-5C batteries which are subject to the product advisory were used with the following Nokia models or separately as accessories:

Nokia 1100, Nokia 1100c, Nokia 1101, Nokia 1108, Nokia 1110, Nokia 1112, Nokia 1255, Nokia 1315, Nokia 1600, Nokia 2112, Nokia 2118, Nokia 2255, Nokia 2272, Nokia 2275, Nokia 2300, Nokia 2300c, Nokia 2310, Nokia 2355, Nokia 2600, Nokia 2610, Nokia 2610b, Nokia 2626, Nokia 3100, Nokia 3105, Nokia 3120, Nokia 3125, Nokia 6030, Nokia 6085, Nokia 6086, Nokia 6108, Nokia 6175i, Nokia 6178i, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6270, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia 6630, Nokia 6631, Nokia 6670, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia 6820, Nokia 6822, Nokia 7610, Nokia N70, Nokia N71, Nokia N72, Nokia N91, Nokia E50, Nokia E60

This product advisory applies also to the following accessories:

Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-1W, Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-3W

“Nokia” and “BL-5C” are printed on the front of the battery. On the back of the battery, the Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom. If the battery identification number does not contain 26 characters, it is not subject to this product advisory.

If you are interested to know if your battery is part of this product advisory, please follow the two steps below:

1) Switch off your mobile device and check the battery model. If your battery is not a BL-5C model, you are not included in this product advisory and your product will not be replaced.

bl5c1

2) If your battery is a BL-5C model, remove the battery and check the 26-character identification number from the back of the battery. Enter the identification number in the field below and you will be advised if your battery may be replaced.

bl5c2

-------------------------------------------------------
To enter the identification number, please click below:
http://www.nokia.com/batteryreplacement/en/

-------------------------------------------------------
And, if you want it to get replaced, send your defective battery to their head office via mail or the nearest nokia dealers. We know, in Nepal, we don't have authorized Nokia dealers. So, the only option is to send them via mail.

ONE MORE THING, not all BL-5C's are 'time-bombs'. Even though you've BL-5C's and upon entering 26 digit number in above link, you may get a notice something like this below:

"Product Advisory: Nokia BL-5C battery

Your battery is not among those manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006 and your battery will not be replaced."

Besides, what is BL-5C?
The BL-5C is one of 14 different battery models used in Nokia products. As with many of its components, Nokia has a multi-supplier strategy for batteries, including the BL-5C. Matsushita is one of several suppliers Nokia has for the BL-5C battery.

Change Windows XP to Mac OS X

I had used StyleXP,Windows Blind, transformation packs and other desktop skinning tools. They were good but this one is pretty enticing. Flyakiteosx will transform the entire look of Windows XP. It is not like skinning desktop look but it will entirely change the look and feel of XP to Mac OS X.

This is transformed look of XP. It's typical lookalike of Mac OS X. The taskbar is up-tilted. Desktop icon is positioned differently and the quick launch of programs in down-centered. And, it's a complete makeover of Windows XP

Author's Remark:-
FlyakiteOSX is a transformation pack. It will transform the look of an ordinary Windows XP+ system to resemble the look of Mac OS X. The installer simply automates the process of replacing critical system files, setting registry tweaks, and installing extras such as cursors, sounds, visual styles, etc. FlyakiteOSX DOES NOT contain any spyware or ad-ware of any kind. All files needed for FlyakiteOSX are stored in the Windows directory in a folder named 'FlyakiteOSX' that is hidden by default. All registry values for FlyakiteOSX are written to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FlyakiteOSX.

Nepal Telecom acts irresponsible

This is the newspaper cuttings of one of our Nepalese Daily Newspaper and here a person is complaining about how his mobile cell phone service is disrupted by Telecom itself without prior notice to him indicating what is his indecent activities. He fumed that at least he would've been informed of his mistakes before cutting his line. He was trying all to sort out hardware problem but later came to know it's the Telecom's act.

He said, he was told that his number was used by Call-bypasser crook using it over VOIP illegal network. He swore he never gave his Simcard to anyone and he has nothing to give and take with such people since he's teacher by profession. He has his own duty to teach his students.
He further wrote there, he's mentally suffered for treating him like a criminal by authority in the Telecom when he went there to make inquiry and register complain.
--------------------------------------

My opinion is at least Telecom should have informed him of his crime. Is the duty of Nation's telecom to act like that? Even criminals are made known of their crimes. Then why is Telecom not letting people know of their crime from whom they charge taxes under various topics? I think this is not the proper way to treat their own customer.

Personally, i hate Nepal Telecom. Those liars always make big announcements and give us nothing but low-standard services.

Site on Nepal Bandh( Nation-wide Strike Schedule)

It's ironical to see site like www.nepalbandh.com

I am personally not mocking the site but the reason of it's existence. Why do we need to have site like this which shows the Nation-wide strike schedules? It's because of the leaders loosing it's credibility and irresponsibility responses it releases from time to time. Then the only way to draw their attention is to organise events like Nepal-wide strike or closure of all offices/businesses across the country.

Now, imitating such acts, even some groups started to make this 'Bandh' happen so frequently for even a small cause. If a taxi driver is insulted by a traffic police, whole traffic is halted by taxi driver union. If a waiter is fired out of job, a whole waiter's union come up and beat the Hotel's manager and then All Nepal Hotel is closed forcibly by them. These are very few examples why so many strikes are taking place.

I'm not totally against this because, if government doesn't listen by words, the only method is to make them heard either by halting whole system or by violence. It's the government whom i want to blame for their irresponsibility.

Well, i don't want to pollute my blog with political issues anymore and yeap that's true. Unlike normal calendar that we use to mark out certain holidays and special occasions, nepalbandh.com is an online calendar to mark out when and where a strike/closure is taking place.

Bandh, also a Nepali word meaning 'closed', is a form of protest. While often means the closing down of markets of a city for the day, but there have been instances of entire nation coming to a standstill. -nepalbandh.com

This site has well served it's purpose. Because, so many times, i felt so bad when i left out of the house and found everything is closed. This is not the only case with me but with whole citizens. Without prior notice and due to immediate Strike, people often find themselves into horrid situation. Thanks to nepalbandh.com , it is somewhat helping us to find what is going on next and so help us to manage our time or may be postpone our schedule at easy time.

New National Anthem of Nepal

These days, there is a phrase on everyone's lips , " New Nepal (नया नेपाल) " . Let's start with our New National Anthem. Check the following YouTube Video how our New National Anthem sounds and feels like.

Our New National Anthem has been written by Poet Pradeep Kumar Rai, alias Byakul Maila and music composed by veteran musician Ambar Gurung. This song is declared national anthem on Aug 3,2007 by our government. Old anthem praised only autocratic regime of king and this New Anthem praises our sovereign people of Nepal.

Words were quite hard to understand at first read but once i recited it again and again, it felt familiar and you'll see the beauty of words when it's molded into the music.

Followings are the wordings of our country Nepal's New National Anthem:

-------------------------
Romanized Wordings
-------------------------

Sayau thunga phoolkaa haamee yautai mala nepali
Sarwabhauma bhai phailayakaa mechi mahakalee

Prakritekaa kotee kotee sampadako aachala
Beerharukaa ragatale swatantra ra aatala

Gyanbhumee shantebhumee tarai pahaada hemaala
Akhanda yoo pyaro hamro matrebhumee nepal

Bahul jaate bhashha dharma sanskritee chhan besaala
Agragame rastra hamro jaya jaya nepal

-----------------------------
English meaning of our anthem
-----------------------------

We are the flowers of hundreds, the one garland - Nepali
Sovereign, spread out from Mechi to Mahakali.

Amazing nature’s millions of heritages
By the blood of the braves, independent and immovable.

Land of Knowledge, land of peace, Tarai, Himals, Mountains
Undivided this beloved, our mother-land Nepal.

Diverse race, language, religion, culture are so large
Our progressive country, long live, long live Nepal.

-------------------------------------------
And, in our own native language(in unicode)
-------------------------------------------
सयौं थूंगा फूलका हामी, एउटै माला नेपाली
सार्वभौम भइ फैलिएका, मेची-महाकाली।

Fujitsu's 'Nanohole' technology breaking GigaByte barrier in Hard Drives

Around a decade ago, when i was using a MS-DOS 6.22 and some sort of dark-age office applications which didn't have today's GUI rather interlaced/scanlined GUI(very troublesome to eyes glaring for longer time) has evolved with times. At that time, i was taught that Bill Gates once(may be 1980) said that 640 KB ought to be enough memory for anyone. I was using MS-DOS 6.22, had 5.25 inch drive, around 640 KB of conventional memory when hit mem.exe DOS command and no harddrives at all. Everything ran off the 5.25 inch diskettes. Programs were counted on bytes and kilo bytes. We didn't dream of having Gigabytes of hard drive space and physical RAM. But time has changed gracefully.

Right now, i've 2 GB of DDR2 physical RAM on 3.06 GHz HT processor and 80 GB of harddrive space. At the current context, 80 GB is very minimal but that's not bothering. I mean looking back at time, i never dreamt of GB's of drive space but it has become reality now. I mean everything kept increasing. Size of programs, softwares,GHz speed,storage,memory.. everything. There are some barriers though.

Till date, we've read of Terabyte(it's 1024 GB technically) and the structure of our current harddrive will allow us to have only to the limit of 1 Terabyte of storage. There are already 750 GB hard drives in market and they are quite expensive for the time being.

Fujitsu's(a harddrive manufacturing company) 'Nanohole' technology is breaking that barrier very soon in coming days and we'll be playing with terabytes of storage at mere 2.5 inch size of two platters hard drive. Smaller the drive, more efficient and power saving would it be. That's what engineers from Fujitsu claims. The implementations would be Mobile devices and laptops. They say it can occupy 1.2 TB of storage.

To know more about 'Nanohole' technology,..

Infamous Nigerian(african) scam robbed a man worth $1.7 million.

When i read news like this, i feel and believe that there are so many vulnerable / innocent / greedy / foolish people breathing air in the vicinity of such scam. As notorious as Natwarlaal, Nigerians(and some africans) are infamous for email scams. They send thousands of such scams all around the world using Internet and make victims worldwide. Their emails are very lucrative and offer a contract worth million of dollars. Their emails are so convincing that it's hard to not believe their pledge. And, when the victims fall prey to their scam, they make conversations and regular emails get exchanged. They ask for certain monetary return from the victim so as to prove himself(victim) the true/reliable owner of their money to be transferred. So, many victims paid either $500 or $200 and in return they got nothing but tension of loosing their money and being fool. In Nepal also, there are news making headings of such scams. They robbed so many Nepalese, those Nigerians are drug traffickers and mostly involved in counterfeit money making in the country. Dreaming to get huge sum of money from unknown source has driven those victims to fall prey on the hand of such scumbags.

I read a news about an Australian guy,49-years-old who got victim of this nigerian email scam. By email, they showed him $90 million worth of money to transfer on his account under certain business contract. The scam was started around a year ago in Japan and since then, these scumbags ripped around $1.7 million off him in the name of fees under different topics. He came for an appointment in Amsterdam with those nigerian thugs. It was pretty convincing for him since he was meeting them but he got likely suspicious after they demanded more sum of money. So, what else, he headed straight to Dutch police and those bastards got jailed. Six of them are arrested, two were nigerians and other four were south-africans.

Therefore i urge everyone surfing net to stay away from the scam emails which shows you very very convincing facts. Especially, if they write they are son/daughter of some big oil company, or if they are the only heir of their so-called deceased
rich relatives/parents blah blah.. who wants to transfer their huge amount to our bank account, then think it's a scam and never-ever reply to their mails.

SMART TIPS:
if you suspect the email, google.com is the saviour. Do a search on email's subject.

Computer Stupidities

  • Tech Support: "May I ask what operating system you are running today?"
  • Customer: "A computer."

A girl walked into the computer center where I work. She said she was having problems with her Mac. I asked what kind of Mac she had. In an indignant voice, she replied, "Duh, Intosh."

  • Tech Support: "What operating system are you running? Windows 95?"
  • Customer: (a little too excited) "95, 97, 98, I've got them all!"

After conferring with her husband, it turned out she owned a Macintosh with System 8.1.

  • Tech Support: "Do you know what operating system you're on?"
  • Customer: "Hmmm...what would be a good answer?"

  • Customer: "I don't use DOS. What would happen if I deleted that directory?"

One time I had to walk a Windows 95 user through a particular procedure.

  • Me: "First you need to open DOS-prompt. I'll guide you--"
  • Customer: "MY COMPUTER DOES NOT HAVE DOS! YOU THINK I RUN THAT ANCIENT SOFTWARE?" (click)

  • My Friend: "I just installed Windows 98."
  • Me: "Cool. But...it's 2001. Why not Windows 2000 or wait for XP to come out?"
  • My Friend: "Oh, 98 is more easily hacked, so I want it."
  • Me: "You want to get hacked?"
  • My Friend: "Yes! Wouldn't you?"
  • Me: "No...."
  • My Friend: "When you get hacked you get a lot of money! That's a good thing!"
  • Me: "???"

  • My Friend: "What's your operating system?"
  • Me: "Linux."
  • My Friend: "You better uninstall it!"
  • Me: "Why?"
  • My Friend: "The government uses Linux to look through your computer and see your every move. They use it as a security camera into your world."
  • Me: "Sure...."

  • Friend: "Does Windows 98 support Linux?"

  • Customer: "Do you sell Mac OS X for Windows?"

Overheard in a classroom:

  • Student: "How much do Windows cost, and do you have to buy each one separately?"

  • Customer: "How much do Windows cost?"
  • Tech Support: "Windows costs about $100."
  • Customer: "Oh, that's kind of expensive. Can I buy just one window?"

  • Friend: "Hey, cool Mac! Does it have Windows!?"
  • Me: (incredulous stare)
  • Friend: "Oh, wait, that was stupid. All Macs have Windows."

  • Customer: (angrily) "You said I would get 98 windows with this computer. Where are they?"

  • Tech Support: "What version of Windows do you have installed?"
  • Customer: "... Double glazed."

A customer called in with modem problems.

  • Tech Support: "Ok, we're going to check your modem settings. First thing we need to do is make sure all programs are closed."
  • Customer: "How do I know if everything is closed?"
  • Me: "Make sure all windows are closed."
  • Customer: "But...I'm in the basement. I don't have any windows here."

Lucky me, I made it to the the mute button in time!

I can't even count how many people I argue with about this, yet they insist there is an operating system call "Windows 95 NT."

One day I got a call toward the end of the day from a sales rep in Chicago who couldn't get his computer to boot up. We went round and round for about two hours -- nothing worked. I was ready to pull my hair out, but I don't like losing. To lighten the tension of the moment, I started chitchatting with him as we're waiting to see if the machine will restart. He has an IBM ThinkPad, and I told him how much I like mine.

  • Him: "Yeah, they're ok, but I travel a lot, and I got tired of the darn thing being so heavy, so I installed Windows CE to make it lighter."

  • Me: "Do you know what the registry is?"
  • Friend: "Oh, yes. I take the registry apart and put it back together all the time."

I was calling to sign up with a new DSL provider. When the guy asked what operating system I was using, I said, "Linux." I was put on hold for five minutes, and then a supervisor came back and told me, "You can't use Linux to connect to the Internet. It's a hacker tool, anyway." I almost fell out of my chair.

In about 1993, Cambridge University had a few rooms of 486s, for use by members of the University. You could get into the rooms at any time of day if you had a key, and the site security would walk around every hour or so at night.

One policy, introduced after a few too many noisy games of network Doom, was that playing games wasn't allowed. One evening, however, I saw someone using eXceed (an X-Windows server for Microsoft Windows) to run Motif. Apparently he was doing something on one of the UNIX machines over the network. The security guard came up behind him, and the conversation went something like this:

  • Security Guard: "Could you stop that -- you're not allowed to play games in here."
  • Student: "This isn't a game."
  • Security Guard: "You can't fool me. That's not work."
  • Student: "Yes, it is. I'm a computer science student -- I've got a deadline later this week."
  • Security Guard: "That doesn't look like work to me. I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
  • Student: "What? I'm working. I'm working quietly. Why do I have to leave?"
  • Security Guard: "You're playing a game, and you're lying to me. Out. Now. Before I turn this machine off."

Even the other two people in the room couldn't persuade the security bloke that it wasn't a game.

Overheard in a software shop:

  • Woman #1: "What this Linux thing?"
  • Woman #2: "It's a program that if you have it on your computer, you can't turn the computer off."
  • Woman #1: "Oh."

Last year, the temp agency I was working for was arranging a contract for me, and some additional "computer skills" tests were necessary. The branch manager asked what kind of computer I was comfortable with. I said, "Windows PC," although I had used several others. She cut in right then and asked, "Word or Excel?"

  • Customer: "I installed Windows 98 on my computer, and it doesn't work."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, what happens when you turn on your computer?"
  • Customer: "Boy, are you listening? I said it doesn't work."
  • Tech Support: "Well, what happens when you TRY to turn it on?"
  • Customer: "Look, I'm not a computer person. Talk regular English, not this computer talk, ok?"
  • Tech Support: "Ok, let's assume your computer is turned off, and you just sat down in front of it, and want to use it. What do you do?"
  • Customer: "Don't talk like I'm stupid, boy. I turn it on."
  • Tech Support: "And then what happens?"
  • Customer: "What do you mean?"
  • Tech Support: "Does anything appear on your monitor? I mean, the TV part."
  • Customer: "The same thing I saw last time I tried."
  • Tech Support: "And that is what?"
  • Customer: "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"
  • Tech Support: "Yes, sir. What is on your screen?"
  • Customer: "A bunch of little pictures."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, in the upper left corner, do you see 'My Computer'."
  • Customer: "No, all I see is that little red circle thing with the chunk out of it."
  • Tech Support: "You mean an apple?"
  • Customer: "I guess it kind of looks like an apple."

Then it took me fifteen minutes to convince him that he had a Mac. Even after showing him "About this Macintosh." I spent another fifteen minutes trying to convince him that Windows 98 wouldn't work on his Mac. He said it should work because Windows 98 is for PCs, and he had a PowerPC. I think he's still trying to get it to read that CD, because I never could convince him.

Two night forepersons at our company were discussing our new computer network after just having been to a brief orientation session. One of them wanted to know what "windows" were, so I explained. Just as she seemed to be catching on to the concept, the other foreperson piped up. "Well that's great, because we have ninety-five windows on there!"

  • Tech Support: "Do you have any windows open right now?"
  • Customer: "Are you crazy woman, it's twenty below outside..."

  • Co-Worker: "What version of DOS does UNIX run?"

  • Tech Support: "How can I help you?"
  • Customer: "Well, everything is working fine, but there is one program that is not."
  • Tech Support: "What program is it?"
  • Customer: "It's called 'MSDOS Prompt'."
  • Tech Support: "What's wrong with it?"
  • Customer: "Well, I click on it, a black screen shows up with NOTHING but a sign that reads: 'C:\WINDOWS>', and it just sits there and doesn't do anything. I have to turn off the system to go back to Windows."

For my work-study job, I work tech support at a small college. One night I was working Help Desk and the phone rings. I pick it up to have a student telling me she can't get the computer to work.

  • Me: "What operating system are you running?"
  • Student: "Hunh?"
  • Me: "Do you have a Mac or a PC?"
  • Student: "Um, I don't know."
  • Me: "Ok. What does the screen look like?"
  • Student: "It's yellow."
  • Me: "Ok. What does it say on the computer CPU?"
  • Student: "What's that?"
  • Me: "The big grey box."
  • Student: "It doesn't say anything."
  • Me: "Never mind that...do you have a little 'Start' button at the bottom of the monitor?"
  • Student: "Monitor?"
  • Me: "The thing that looks like a TV sceen sitting on the grey box."
  • Student: "Oh! That! No. No start button."
  • Me: "Ok. Is there a little apple symbol anywhere on the screen?"
  • Student: (very puzzled) "Why would I have fruit on my computer?"

Back in the early days of Windows 95:

  • Customer: "I have Windows Thirty One."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, this program requires either Windows 95 or Win32s. Do you have Win32s on your system?"
  • Customer: "No, I have Windows Thirty One, not Thirty Two."
  • Tech Support: "Windows 3.1 is the operating system. Win32s is a program that makes your computer fast like Windows 95."
  • Customer: "What's Windows Ninety Five got to do with it?"
  • Tech Supprort: "You need either Windows 95 or Win32s to run this."
  • Customer: "I HAVE THIRTY ONE! WHY WON'T IT WORK?"
  • Tech Support: (giving up) "Ma'am, your computer is too old. Buy a new one with Windows 95."
  • Customer: "I've heard about Windows Three Hundred and Eleven. Wouldn't that be better than Ninety Five?"

My father decided that it would be a nice surprise to install Windows 95 on my seven year old computer. He had one of his employees give him step-by-step written instructions but neglected to mention that my computer is so old. When I got home he had Windows 95 installed and was struggling to install the first piece of software.

  • My Dad: "It says there's insufficient disk space. How much stuff to you have on the hard drive?"
  • Me: "It was almost full. You shouldn't have been able to get Windows 95 on there."
  • My Dad: "Well, I just followed these instructions."

I looked at the instructions and saw that he had backed up everything and wiped the hard drive.

  • Me: "If you followed these instruction properly, the only thing on the hard drive should be Windows 95. How much space does that take up?"
  • My Dad: "It doesn't take up any space. It's an operating system."
  • Me: "No, it takes up a lot of space, and it shouldn't even be able to fit on this computer."
  • My Dad: "No, you don't know what you're talking about. The problem is that you have too many files. You have to delete some of them."
  • Me: "You already deleted all my files. They're on that stack of disks now."
  • My Dad: "Yes, and those disks are taking up too much space."

A friend just got his new Aptiva/Win98 system and bought a bunch of software to go along with it. He installed everything, then complained that when he started his computer up, the screen was so cluttered he was having a hard time finding his desktop. I talked him through the process of making his desktop a more simple place by turning off fancy wallpaper, toolbars, and so on. He rebooted and said it was just as bad as it ever was. Sighing, I took a quick trip over to look at it.

Somewhat to my amazement, I discovered that every time the computer booted up, a half dozen or so program groups opened up on the desktop, and all sorts of programs were spilling their menu contents onto the screen. After some poking around, I discovered that he had installed everything -- everything -- into his StartUp folder.

I asked him why he installed all his programs in there. He said, "Well, I wanted to be sure they'd start up when I needed them, so...."

My father likes to delete things from the Windows System directory because he's convinced that's where the swap file lurks. I have to reinstall Windows 95 almost every day.

A friend of mine had an old system with a small hard drive and not much memory, so she continued to use Windows 3.1 rather than suffer under the strain of Windows 95/98.

She called me one day to help her because her computer will no longer run Windows. Past experience had taught me most of her computer problems were self-inflicted, so I asked her what she had done to the computer recently.

  • Her: "Well, I needed more space from the hard drive so I could get more JPGs and WAVs from my friends on mIRC."
  • Me: "Ok, so what did you do?"
  • Her: "I just deleted all the blank files from my computer."
  • Me: "Blank files?"
  • Her: "Yes, blank files. I deleted tham all."
  • Me: "What exactly is a blank file?"
  • Her: "When you run File Manager, every file shows a picture. I just deleted all the ones with the blank page picture."

Say goodbye to every .DLL and unassociated file on her system. She was somewhat indignant when she found out she would have to find some Windows 3.1 install diskettes and reinstall every piece of software she wanted to use.

About two months ago, a client called in screaming profanities at me and demanding that I either give him a refund on his one year old system or send a technician out to repair it immediately. His problem was that the taskbar was on the right-hand side of his screen, and he couldn't get it back to the bottom.

A few days ago, a client called in wondering why he couldn't delete items off the Windows desktop. It was soon discovered that he'd already dragged Internet Explorer, MS Outlook, and a few other items off into the recycle bin, and was trying to delete 'My Computer' and 'Network Neighborhood.'

I saw two older looking ladies trying to figure out the computers at a local store. I knew one of them would say something that I could send to Computer Stupidities, so I tried to listen in.

  • Woman 1: "What is that little trash can on the screen?"
  • Woman 2: "My son says that is call the 'recycle bin'. He tells me when I don't want a Word document anymore and I delete it, it really goes in there."
  • Woman 1: "Why in the recycle thingy? Can't you just erase it?"
  • Woman 2: "Oh no, Word wouldn't work for very long if I did that, I would run out of blank pages."
  • Woman 1: "Why?"
  • Woman 2: "Because it cleans the words off the pages, then sends the blank sheets back to Word so they can be used again. That's why it's called the recycle bin."

My coworker (who uses Windows 95) was having trouble downloading a self-extracting archive off the net. In an attempt to make it easier to open the file with WinZIP, he associated *.EXE with WinZIP.

Nothing worked after that. Every program he tried to run would load WinZIP first. He couldn't even run REGEDIT to delete the association.

He ultimately had to reinstall Windows 95 and all his programs.

From a Windows 95 user:

  • Customer: "I think my computer doesn't know what it is doing."
  • Tech Support: (pause) "Why? What is the problem with the system?"
  • Customer: "Well, it keeps asking me, 'What is this?'"

  • Customer: "I keep getting an error message whenever I try using the MSDOS mode in Windows 95."
  • Tech Support: "Can you describe what happens?"
  • Customer: "Well, I keep getting a black screen with an error message saying, 'C:\WINDOWS>'."

  • Customer: "Something's wrong with my computer."
  • Tech Support: "Like what?"
  • Customer: "When I turn it on the screen goes all black."
  • Tech Support: "Totally black?"
  • Customer: "Yes."
  • Tech Support: "Does it say 'C:\>' in the corner?"
  • Customer: "Yes."
  • Tech Support: "Then it's not really all black, is it?"
  • Customer: "I guess not."
  • Tech Support: "Type 'win' and press the enter key."

I work at an office supply store. When Windows 98 came out, we had a sale on new computer systems. There were more than a few people who were completely taken in by buzzwords and had no idea what they were talking about. The worst case was a person who spent five or ten minutes looking through Windows Explorer, apparently trying to find something. Trying to make the sale, I stayed with her, helping her when necessary. Eventually, I asked to know what she was looking for. "I'm trying to run Windows 98," she said.

Read in a message board of a local BBS: "I try to avoid using Microsoft. That's why I use MS-DOS."

  • Tech Support: "What software are you using to backup?
  • Customer: "Ms. Dos." (spoken like it was a person, like Mr. Dos or Mrs. Dos)
  • Tech Support: "What, are you just copying the files with the xcopy or copy command?"
  • Customer: "Oh, no I use Ms. Backup for that."

At least three people from our company have come to me panicked, almost crying. They all say, "I think I just erased a program!! Help!!" In reality, it turns out they just minimized the window. When I open it again, they gasp, "What did you DO?!?!?"

We maintain a 24 hour, 800 number call desk for our maintenance contract customers, a very expensive undertaking. Non-contract customers can call as well, but our per-call maintenance charge is $250/hour, with a minimum of three hours. If you only call us occasionally, it's a lot cheaper than a contract, but it's clearly designed to discourage trivial calls.

In 1996 a per-call customer called. "What does MSDOS stand for?" she asked. We told her. Her firm paid the $750 bill without demur.

One time a user was trying to clean up his hard drive. He saw a folder called "system" which took up lots of space but only had a few things in it. So he moved the fonts and sounds to a new location and deleted everything else.

One of our users, upon receiving his new computer, deleted most of the files in the system area. He said he didn't know what those files did, so he got rid of them. For some strange reason, the system refused to work properly afterward.

Had a user that called the other day, complaining that all her files were "garbage" and that I should take her computer back and fix them. It turned out she was looking at system files. She couldn't read the binary code and assumed, therefore, that the files were corrupted.

I was asked to fix Word Perfect once, when it had apparently "just quit working." They didn't know why, but it didn't take long for me to find the problem. They had cleaned up their hard drive by erasing all binary files because "they weren't readable."

One user -- a regular caller of ours -- got herself into some serious computer trouble when she set about cleaning up her system. She had been exploring the hard drive in the file manager and discovered hundreds of files in the Windows directory with all different file extensions. Being of an orderly mind, and with several hours of free time, she had created a TXT folder, a COM folder, a DLL folder, and so forth, and moved all the files into these subdirectories.

  • Me: "You really should exit Windows before you shut down."
  • Friend: "Why?"
  • Me: "Well, otherwise you could end up with fragmented files and hard drive errors and that sort of thing."
  • Friend: "Oh well. Who cares about hard drive errors?"

  • Customer: "My machine won't do anything."
  • Tech Support: "What's on the screen right now?"
  • Customer: "It's frozen, it's showing my Windows desktop."
  • Tech Support: "Try hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete, tell me what happens."
  • Customer: (taptaptap) "Nothing."
  • Tech Support: "Did you hit all of them at once?"
  • Customer: "Umm...just a second." (taptaptap) "I did that time. Nothing happened."
  • Tech Support: "Try it again."
  • Customer: (taptaptap) "No, it's just sitting there."
  • Tech Support: "Move the mouse around. What happens?"
  • Customer: "Nothing, the arrow doesn't move."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, last try, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete again."
  • Customer: "Still nothing."
  • Tech Support: "Hit your numlock key. Does the light flash?"
  • Customer: "No."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, you're going to have to shut your computer off. Just press the power button, wait for a couple of seconds, and turn it on again."
  • Customer: "I've heard that's bad for Windows."
  • Tech Support: "Um, well, you can't do anything else, right?"
  • Customer: "No."
  • Tech Support: "Well, you can't hurt it any worse then."
  • Customer: "But I've heard it's bad for Windows to just shut it off without shutting down first."
  • Tech Support: "Yes, but it's locked up. There's nothing else you can do."
  • Customer: "Will it hurt my Windows?"
  • Tech Support: "Probably no worse than it already was by locking up."
  • Customer: "Well...ok...but if it doesn't work, will you come over and fix it for me?"

There is a gradeschooler who lives in an apartment complex down the street for whom I built a 486 some time ago. It's running Windows 95, and I am forced to fix it for him constantly. One day he called me up and said that his computer is opening up all of his files. I grabbed my coat and hat and popped over to see what he had done to the poor thing. He had selected everything on his desktop and made shortcuts of them in a new folder on the desktop, in the quick-launch, and, worst of all, his startup folder. Imagine booting all the MS Office 97 applications at startup on a 486...quite painful.

I put my foot in my mouth rather firmly once. I was teaching a new user some basic UNIX commands just so she could get around on the computer when she needed to. I thought I was doing pretty well, but, in a moment of self-doubt, she said that she didn't think she'd ever learn how to use a computer. My feeble attempt at consoling her follows:

  • Me: "Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it. When I first started using UNIX, I didn't even know how to change directories!"
  • Her: "What's a directory?"

  • Customer: "File manager? What's that?"
  • Tech Support: "How long have you had your computer?"
  • Customer: "Three years."

Talking to a Mac user:

  • Tech Support: "When was the last time you rebuilt the desktop?"
  • Customer: "Did what?"
  • Tech Support: "How long have you owned this computer?"
  • Customer: "Four years."

A customer walked into the computer store I work in, wanting to return a computer.

  • Me: "Sure, is it defective?"
  • Customer: "No, that's not the problem. When I took it home and turned it on, I realized it was only half programmed."
  • Me: [scratching head] "What do you mean by half programmed?"
  • Customer: "Well, look at the computer on display." [points to the Windows 95 desktop] "Do you see how all the programs are on the left side of the computer?"
  • Me: [biting tongue] "Well, you are right sir, I will take your computer back."

I decided the moron had to solve his life before he could buy a computer.

A guy at our company asked to have Lotus Notes installed on his Mac. He said he'd be away for a couple days, and I could install it then. When I went to do it, there wasn't enough disk space, but there was about 96 megs in the trash. Ah, I thought, he's forgotten to empty it.

When the user returned to work, he came straight to see me after switching on his machine.

  • Him: "Where're all my files?"
  • Me: "What files?"
  • Him: "The ones I was keeping in the trash."

Recently, I had a guy from the local tech school come in for an interview for my computer assistant job opening. I was taking him around the office, trying my best to explain to him what my job entails and what he'd be doing if he worked for me. One of the very first things I showed him was our NT server, which runs Wincenter Pro, a third-party enhanced version of Windows NT Server which allows us to have multiple people logged into the same NT box and to start up a remote NT session from an X-Windows desktop. He was pretty impressed by that, having been trained in a vanilla NT environment. The next thing I showed him was one of our old DG 300 UNIX workstations. He scoffed along with me when I explained that the workstation used an old 16mhz Motorola processor, so it was not exactly fast. The interview seemed to be going well up to this point, with the guy seeming to understand most of the stuff I was throwing out (even the stuff I wasn't too sure about myself) until I happened to mention that the DG workstation, along with all the other workstations and servers in our office (save the NT server, of course) ran DG/UX 5.4R3.10:

  • Me: "Yeah, and this thing runs DG/UX 5.4R3.10."
  • Him: "What's that?"

He stares blankly. My heart sinks.

  • Him: "So does that run as a thread under NT?"
  • Me: "No. It's an OS. It just runs by itself."
  • Him: "Oh oh, so you start up NT, then--"
  • Me: "No. UNIX. It's an operating system. It runs by itself, not under NT."

He stares blankly. So much for this prospective employee.

Two girls walked into the University's Linux cluster one time. They were obviously unfamiliar with computers and chatted with each other trying to figure everything out. I was doing my own work and had tuned out a lot of the conversation, but at one point one of them turned to me and asked how to get into Windows. "Type startx," I replied, for the Linux machines booted to a shell prompt, and you had to type "startx" to get into X-Windows. I never did find out if that worked for them or not, but they spent quite some time trying to correlate the instructions they had on paper (presumably given out in one of their classes) with what they were seeing on the screen. A full hour and a half passed, and finally one of them turned to me again and asked if this was the Microsoft Windows cluster. "No," I replied, "that's downstairs." It was hard to stifle the laughter until they were gone. An hour and a half before they realized they weren't even using the right operating system. Wow.

A lab technician (legendary, where I work) deleted a large and seemingly useless file named /vmunix from a Sun workstation. (This file is the UNIX operating system image.) The machine worked fine until I tried to reboot it.

Hamrobazar.com - Buy/sell second hand goods in Nepal at bargained rate

Few years ago, there was a classified ad site called bigyapan.com.np and right now it's unworthy to visit because of the spam postings and unmoderated topics scattered all around which is just useless to take note of. So, i just don't go there anymore.

I just came to know about a new classified AD site in Nepal or say Second hand as well as brand new product listing site targetted directly towards buyers and sellers. As they say, there is no commission for the site owner itself. May be they are collecting their dough from Ads displayed on their site. I was surfing the site and it was pretty simple to understand or to make dealings. People were selling their unused stuffs(under second hand category) and selling them for reduced/discounted/bargained price. Some even were selling new things, pretty lucrative hah? I found this site pretty useful for them who don't mind using used things if it gives back it's utility at par. Though seller has to register his/her name(or account) in order to sell their items. To buy, you don't need to even register. Just get the details of product, either send mail to seller or contact on his landline/wireless numbers disclosed out there. Pay a visit to seller and purchase it or purchase it any other way that is most suitable for you based on negotiations. As simple as it sounds. I found it very easy to get the things at cheapest rate. Since most of the goods are second hand, it's of course below the market price.

If you've your own unused stuffs or the products that you don't use anymore, instead of letting it stale at your dusty store rooms, why not make it saleable. Sell your old unused stuffs at this site HAMROBAZAR.COM.

Comodo Firewall Pro - The next big thing

I've been using ZoneAlarm since ages. I was reading about Comodo Firewall Pro few moments ago. While reading, i was taken to their site and found that they are offering Comodo Firewall Pro for free. The services, updates they provide along with the main program is worth more than $500 per year, that's what they claim. And, they are giving it us for free. Some sites also claimed Comodo Firewall Pro is better than ZoneAlarm. So, i kept reading their sites for more info. There was an online test which checks on our systems security. I thought to check if my system is compromized or not. I downloaded a tool(Comodo Parent Injection Leak Test Suite) from their site and ran it. There were 3 tests(it seemed to me roughly designed VB forms). Before clicking those three test buttons, i was asked to input something(I typed some data). I clicked first button 'Test 1' and while doing so, ZoneAlarm alarmed me of something nasty being done on my system. So, i denied the request. And then i clicked "Test 2", nothing happened and then i clicked "Test 3" again, nothing happened. Remember, i had entered something on that program. After few seconds, a web page popped up and showed me what i typed as my data before. I was really scared. I mean how did it go to remote server without my consent. I thought at least ZoneAlarm would have triggered some actions, but no. ZoneAlarm didn't notice anything, it failed and the message on that Pop-up site was really scary "This data could be your credit numbers or some other important ", there was the data i typed before test. I was really scared and i'm downloading this Comodo Firewall Pro in no time. I think i've to say farewell to ZoneAlarm , because later when i checked the settings, the settings were set on 'HIGH'. I read there that 'HIGH' settings means the safest settings and safe from hackers intrusion. But to me, it proved wrong statement for the time being. Why is it free? if its so powerful and strong enough to protect our system and worth more than $500 per year and still not charging a penny? Here is the answer?? http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/whyfree.html

Where can you download it promptly??(english edition)
http://download.comodo.com/cpf/download/setups/release/CFP_Setup_English_2.4.18.184.exe

And, they have this interesting forum here discussing all about Comodo Firewall.

Microsoft Examination to be held in Nepal

Microsoft Office Specialist Examination (MOSE), which will help people get Microsoft certification for desktop skills to meet workplace requirement, has started in Nepal for the first time.

MOSE, officially launched in 1997, is a Microsoft certified programme that would test and certify candidate skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project. The examination is already available in 118 countries and has become a basic work place requirement to authenticate computer proficiency.

Joe Tun Sein, consultant, examination division, Orient Longman(OL), India, notified that 85 % of current jobs require computer support, and the MOSE certification will authencate the skills.
He said, " The certification has become mandatory for job placement in many parts of the world. The examinnation system introduced in Nepal would capacitate Nepalis to meet the workplace prerequisite throughout the globe."

It will certify candidates, who appear and get through the examination, with a global standard. It would be beneficial to students, teachers, academic institutions, workforce and employers.
Four authorised test centers - Galaxy Public School, Sea Gate Computers, Ekta Books Thapathali and Saipal Academy - are established in Kathmandu to conduct the MOSE.

Tun said that the plan is to establish ten centers in Kathmandu soon. "A minimum of 1,000 students are expected to appear in the exam before November, " he added. To appear in the certification test, one should purchase a certification voucher that would be valid for six months and sit for the test at any authorised testing centers.

For preparatory simulation tests, a MOSE practice CD is available and Cyber Learning is being provided through e-learning programmes.

An hour long exam will test the performance of candidates based on concurrent exam technology.

The OL is the authorised distributor of the certification in the Indian sub-continent.

Nepal in Natural seven Wonders ! Cast your vote at www.natural7wonders.com

Same group or an organization known as New7wonders foundation which announced new seven wonders of the world at the official Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07(i.e 2007, July 7th) in Lisbon(Portugal), has come up with the idea of Natural 7 wonders. Before making gossips on Natural 7 wonders, lets discuss about New7wonders Foundation.

Bernard Weber is the man behind this New7Wonders foundation who conceptualized the idea to unite the world by honoring our common heritage. His concept took a shape and hence it's called New7Wonders foundation. The foundation is working to promote the UN's Millennium Development goals and has been officially recognized by United Nations Office for Partnerships.

It is said that more than 100 million votes were cast worldwide to elect their favorite wonder. Out of New seven wonders, Taj Mahal got the maximum votes. I still remember how deliberately they promoted and convinced people to vote for their wonder. Either be it Indian News channel or be it entertainment industry, almost every indian gave their full support to make this happen. Now, New seven wonders are : the great wall of China, Petra, Chichen Itza, The statue of Christ Redeemer, The colosseum, Machu Pichhu and the Taj Mahal.

In my opinion, we really needed new seven wonders because older wonders that we kept in history and text books, they were really not in a condition to stand their ground. There are now buildings/structures or are being built which are projected to be taller than Eiffel Tower. This proves it is no more a wonder(though it still will be remembered as old wonder). And the reason to be limited to seven is because of it's 2000 years old historic value and norms, according to the foundation.

Coming to the point, Natural7Wonders is another project led by the same foundation. Since the 7 wonders is man-made, these natural 7 wonders have to be strictly natural, not man-made though there are certain terms and conditions to follow and decide which are natural and which are not. For more info please check http://www.natural7wonders.com

The foundation has not yet listed any nominations but at first, they want our votings to list most voted natural wonders, and at second, they'll list it for nominations(precisely they'll list 21 nominations after consideration) and then we've
to give our all effort to vote for the listed nominations. So come on, lets vote for our own natural wonders. It'll go through 08.08.08. That means we've exactly one year left.

Since there is no listing for nominations yet, how do we vote? For that, think of any heritage, monuments or natural sites that we think should appear in the list.
Please give our choice of natural wonders for nominations out here :
http://www.natural7wonders.com/index.php?id=637
There give your email address, select your country where you are from, and think of seven nominations in your mind and send it. Please do it from now.

NOTE: Send chain mails, newsletters or create forums, blogs, online polls whatever, please act now. This little contributions of ours will make us known around the globe.

Goodbye Abhishek Kumar !!!!

When I watched the first Gala Contest in Indian Idol 3, Abhishek Kumar was my first expectation to become an indian idol. He was stunning singer and very good performer. His performance started off being so good to no good at all lately. Yesterday, he chose very hard song and couldn't go with the flow. At times, i felt him out of 'Sur'. I thought indian idol is what it is because of singers like Prashant, Amit and Abhishek.

It is disgrace to see and listen to such a bad singers like deepali, pooja and chang still on the show whereas it's utmost upsetting to see singers like Abhishek and Parleen go off the show.

I don't know why i've some strange feeling that this time, indian idol would be a girl because those judges are giving hints so as to make a girl an indian idol anyhow no matter what. May be they are sick and tired of seeing male idol.

These indian idol judges are the most funniest bunch of fools(no offence..arrrgh..excuse me.. that's how i felt). It is because they act like kids fighting for their choice of toy. I don't care if they are good in their field or not but as a viewer i entertain a lot watching them fight. Anu Malik is one of the retards who blinks like a monkey after he sees the votings of public. He thinks public voted against his approval. I mean every time public voted them higher whom he sprinkled with his bad and harsh and comments and vice-versa. And, that look at his face, that's watchable and makes me go paranoid.

And, for other two judges Alisha and Udit, i've no more words to say(in their style) except 'cartoons'. Yesterday, when i heard Udit saying " If you sang Bad today, you'll be geography ". --- There was no limit of my laugh(ROFL). After few sec, Alisha the princess(who thinks herself as some princess and dresses up like Mario's Princess) figured it out and boldly fired back as a good English teacher,"Stupid, it's history". Udit blushed like a glowing night lamp out of shame and for his third-class english. So, these are the judges of Indian Idol. And, Javed Sir!!! i've no control on my laughter thinking how this old man would be reacting while making out with his young wife. Would it be starting with " Dekhiye!!! waha lett jahiyeee.. " hahahahahhaa

Anyways, farewell Abhishek. Wish you come back.

Around the world , techno Gossips

Whaack.. those two nasty buddies of mine, Tiger and Sheru, i washed them today. ha ha ha ha ha. Sheru is very strong and he almost left me fall on the ground but i didn't let him.. I don't know if you guys know this or not, if dogs are quarrelling, just shower them with a bucket of water or two. It is because, they are quite unfriendly to water and run-away,scare of it. Anyways, they are so clean and i can see they were so happy to see/smell their clean fur. Is this a techno gossips?? certainly not.

aghrrr.. Did you know, Microsoft lowers Vista Price in China. Approx. for Nrs. 4000, Vista is available in China. That's $66 for Windows Vista home versions. They have this home version, professional version things because, home versions are the stripped down version of full-fledged version. It's definitely a Microsoft's policy to increase sales and discourage the piracy. Amidst lots of frown faces, bargains and criticism, Microsoft sold almost 60 million Vista licenses by the end of June. Ha ha ha, in Nepali, we call 'kaag karaudai garcha, pina sukdai garcha' . I mean no matter how much noises and fumes come over, it doesn't bother the Giant much. I happen to see so many blogs, forums, sites who criticized Vista but seeing 60 million sales.. ha ha ha.. i've kindda feeling you know.. anyways.. Microsoft rocks. They've so many bugs to fix and patches to release for Vista. That's my personal opinion.

Did you know Sir Elton John is a gay? ha ha ha.. that's not my topic of writing here. Well, for sir Elton John, Internet is a curse. He thinks people is loosing their social life as everyone is listening music on internet and blogging all the times according to him. He says " the Internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff" according the SUN magazine. (By the way, i read this mag herein ktm, indian version. geez!! ) He's much worried because he's loosing his real life audiences and he even suggested to shut internet down for five years. What do you say for him?? He though let his fans buy his tickets off his website. Irony, yeah?? ha ha ha ha.. anyways, i don't want to tag him hypocrite.

Have you guys been noticing anything on the far bottom-right of my blog? The Label-headings like :

He's fined US$1,200 too. Now, i'm going to show the figure how much he earned since 2001. $266,000, yeap, that's correct and he's fined only $1200. His site sold stuffs like video games, for Xbox,Gamecube,PS2 and other platforms on CD-r,also DVD's of movies/TV programs etc.

MAHABIR PUN , who brought Wireless Internet in Nepal's remote villages

Mahabir Pun

My country, My birthplace, Nepal is land of diversities. There are still so many places and villages where just dreaming to reach is nightmare. It would take around weeks of walk to reach those places. Despite it's remoteness and inaccessibility to outer world, some son of tiger dares to dream big and makes it happen. There is a village in western Nepal called Nangi. Though it takes around several days of walk to reach that village from the main road connecting different districts in the country, people out there is communicating with the world outside. It's all because of Wireless Internet and the son of Nepal who made it happen is non other than ex-gurkha's son Mahabir Pun.

Elevation 3,600m (~12,000 ft)

Mahabir Pun first dreamed of connecting his village of Nangi to the internet in 1997, and has been working ever since to bring the internet to rural Nepal. Mahabir was born in Nangi, and completed his primary education there.
After working as a teacher for several years, he completed a master's degree in education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Mahabir has constructed computer labs at several schools in the area and planned out the entire Nepal Wireless network. He plans to to continue to expand access in the future. - http://www.nepalwireless.net

What started as a venture only for his locality has now become the nation-wide project. People are hugely benefitted with his projects. Now, his project is directed towards connecting all the remote areas of country. I read in one interview that people are greatly affected with the boon he brought. Villagers can now make telephone calls, tele-medicine is working fine and exchange of ideas and informations all possible. Some dying people got new life because of tele-medicine where doctor prescribes medicine from other end.

He is very down-to-earth person and very ordinary looking guy who induced big donors like Bill gates to donate for the development of remote villages, Information Technology and living standard of poor Nepalese who are forced to live under poverty line. I'm really touched because of the way he conveys his messages and to know his virtues intentions. He is very deliberate person that i came know when he made computers for the schools he opened in his villages. He made computers to operate by assembling parts from the debris of computer wastes. He made wooden casings for those motherboards and other circuitries to remain in single box. He thought that some other's waste is big assets for poor Nepalese people. So many westerners are amazed by his efforts and admiring for his noble cause. He taught basic computers and other education for his poor people for free.

Therefore, we all Nepalese felt very honored when Mahabir Pun was awarded with The 2007 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership. He really deserves this honor. But, he thinks it's too early for him to get this award(though he doesn't expect for any award or his efforts were not award-motivated) since he still has so many achievements to get. Whatever, i personally like to thank him and pray to god and wish him(from all of us, proud Nepalese) best of luck in all his endeavors.

Mahabir Pun, you are the true Humanitarian and our country Nepal needs people like you, not people like Girija Prasad Koirala(and gang). You are the real son of Nepal. And Congratulation to Magsaysay Awardee.

PS:-
Established in 1957, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is Asia's highest honor and is widely regarded as the region's equivalent of the Nobel Prize. It celebrates the memory and leadership example of the third Philippine President, and is given every year to individuals or organizations in Asia who manifest the same sense of selfless service that ruled the life of the late and beloved Filipino leader.

Sanjay Dutt Jailed

I really felt bad, when i was eagerly waiting for the good news regarding Sanjay Dutt but,.. bad news. Sanjay Dutt got jailed for 6 years. To me, only possessing weapons must not be enough reason for him to be jailed. Why these Indian Court forgetting that he is a celebrity. May be his past is not that good and not inspiring for young blood but just because he has some nexus with underworld doesn't necessarily compel him to be jailed.

In 1993, there was a gruesome bomb-blast in Bombay where more than 260 innocent people got killed. Those who committed that crime, they were definitely terrorists and they should be treated as same. So, i read some 10 or 12 terrorists for commiting that crime have been hung under death penalty whereas some criminals under the same charge as of Sunjay Dutt have been released on bail. Then, why not Sanjay Dutt?

I've been a big fan of his movies, i particularly liked his movie called 'Vastab'. He has strong character out there playing as a gangster and depicts the bad ending of gangster. I think, he is paying his debt just for having some connection with the gangsters who were somehow involved in that Bombay blast in 1993.

If i analytically see this action of Indian Courty, there is a message. A message not to be in touch in anyway with those social culprit who keeps terrorising people's lives. There is a saying in Nepali, "Koila lai Choyo bhaney, kaalo daag afnai haatma pani laagcha" something like that which means " If we touch coal, we'll get our hand dirty ". This is nothing but a message to bollywood, stay out of those social culprits which is known as Indian DON else be ready for the consequences. Whatever, for fan like me, i felt bad but in long run, this will definitely minimizes the Indian Underworlds involvement in Indian Film industry.

Today, i read Sanjay Dutt didn't sleep well on first day of his imprisonment. His eyes were soaked and there was fury in his eyes at the same time. He just had 2 apples as his dinner meal and nothing more than that. Policy custody is not letting him meet with his family members. That's against his basic human rights. I also read, a police superintendent misbehaved him. I think that policeman deserves a slap under his ear, because he is forgetting he's a celebrity then he's some convict under Indian Law. As a celebrity, he has been paying tax to Indian Government out of his income and he's not yet killed intentionally any people. Indian Court seems avenging Sanjay Dutt out of personal grudge.

If Salman Khan rode his vehicles over the sleeping homeless, and still he's breathing in fresh air. Khan who has been accused of hunting animals and still free. I think Sanjay Dutt should be treated same. His punishment must be minimized.

I agree, for illegal possession of firearms acquired from terrorists, who were responsible for the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, he must be punished. He must be punished for keeping illegal arms. He must not be punished as of killing those 260 people. He has nothing to do with that. Sunjay Dutt, if god is with you, you'll be released very soon.
