Well, the title is not just to draw attention of my readers but it is just the part of whole news and it's the reality.
Someone with the name DAN EGERSTAD(swedish) who calls himself Freelance Security Consultant(infact, he is the guy who hacked embassies's senstive login details all around the world. He's truly a hacker and he calls himself some Security consultant. I think after this he surely will get that job, best of luck for him) published usernames and passwords for more than 100 email acccounts of various embassies and governments around the world. He posted all this sensitive login details few days ago on his blog http://derangedsecurity.com/ and now, it's not there at all. He deleted that post. The post read this way http://derangedsecurity.com/deranged-gives-you-100-passwords-to-governments-embassies-2/ which will return NOT FOUND if you visit out of excitement(drop your excitement..plz :)
May be he's afraid of federals,CIA or interpol getting behind him, he has publicly issued a press release that he has no intention to break in. What he wanted is just to alert the computer security of government offices so that they could take proper initiative to strengthen their online data.
Of the compromised accounts, 10 belong to the Kazakh embassy in Russia. Around 40 belong to Uzbeki embassies and consulates around the world. Login details for email accounts at the UK visa office in Nepal were also posted. Login details for the foreign ministry of Iran, the Kazakh and Indian embassies in the US, and the Russian embassy in Sweden were also posted.

$24,400 for a cellphone
Vertu(Nokia Corp.'s Subsidiary) is producing and selling limited edition of 60 phones each priced at $24,400. The phone "The Vertu Ascent Ferrari 60" is created to celebrate sports-car maker Ferrari SpA's 60th anniversary. According to company representative, the phones are hand assembled using top-of-the-line stainless steel and titanium components, as well as leather from authentic Ferrari suppliers.

People would be paying money for it's craftmanship and high quality branded material used for it. Paying $24,400 only for a phone is out of reach for middle-class like us but it's for sure, someone diehard fan of ferrari or celebrities gonna own this one for sure as a status symbol.

USB 3.0 is new standard
Started off with USB 1.1 standard to now considered USB 2.0 as the fastest USB standard is going to be deluded very soon. It's because, new standard USB 3.0 is coming on its way very soon. USB is so ubiquitous that i'm sure nobody needs it's whole definition. We know it as a Universal serial bus(USB) in an unabridged form.
If we see carefully, almost all addons like digicam, portable harddrive, portable media players, mouse, keyboard, network card, wireless adapter, mobile phones, almost every tech gadget use USB standard as a medium to connect to each other. It won't be exaggeration if we call this current time as USB era in techworld. Before i start blabbering more on USB. Let me reveal some important things that i know.
When USB was first introduced, i didn't care much about it. I only knew it's bandwidth is faster than serial ports in motherboard. I used to think why would anyone need 12Mbps USB mouse just to move cursor on the screen. But today i know, to get the precision and massive mouse use on networked games, high bandwidth mouse and
keyboard is a must for faster response.
Normally, USB 1.1 had only 12 Mbps and USB 2.0 that we are using today has 480 Mbps
bandwidth theoritically. It's not wise to mistake Mbps with MBps. I want to clear this confusion with practical example.
----------------------
I learnt (as a school goer):
1 bit= 1 or 0
byte = 8 bit
KiloByte(KB)=1024 byte and
MegaByte=1024 KiloByte(KB)
and so
For now, just remember above things.
Say, i used 56.6 Kbps modem. Lets try to find it's real speed in KB per second.
56.6 kbps x 1000 = 56600 bits
56600/8 = 7075 bytes
7075/1024 = 6.9 KB per second.
Theoritically, 56.6 Kbps modem is capable of transfering approx. 7 KB(KiloBytes) of data per second(which is not a reality when it comes to practical use due to packet compression, network latency and protocol it uses.)
Now, USB 1.1 had 12 Mbps transfer speed, that means 12 x 1000 x 1000 = 12000000/8 = 1500000 bytes/1024=1464.84375/1024=1.43MBps
USB 2.0 has 480 Mbps transfer speed, that means 480 x 1000 x 1000 = 480000000/8=60000000 bytes/1024=58593.75/1024= 57.22 MBps.
Now, theoritically, USB 1.1 was able to transfer 1.43 MB of data per second only whereas USB 2.0 is able to transfer approx 58 MB of data per second. We're using USB 2.0 standard.
Within few months USB 3.0 is coming in the market. Imagine what would be it's speed? ha ha ha.. it's massive 4.8 Gbps. I'm eager to calculate it's transfer speed in MBps.
--------------
4.8 x 1000 x 1000 x 1000 = 4800000000 bits
4800000000/8=600000000 Bytes
600000000/1024=585937 KB
585937/1024=572 MB--------------
So, copying 1 GB file would be done in 2 seconds theoritically. :)
I'm gonna love this USB 3.0 standard. This 4.8 Gbps USB 3.0 is ten times faster than today's 480Mbps USB 2.0. And this USB 3.0 would be equally backward compatible with old ports. Just like USB 2.0 is backward compatible with old ports. May be you've noticed, when you plugged in high USB speed Device to old USB port, a message popping up, "this device can perform better in higher speed USB port or something like that" i don't remember what was the exact phrase but i really did mention, it could perform better in high speed port.
I think this standard is more productive for people who has to move GigaBytes of data from here to there in regular interval. No more coffee break while transferring data and hence more time is saved for productive use. :)

TibetanPainting.com : Work of personal vision based on the art and craft of thangka
I think now, i'd be able to blog frequently. Finally, the project that i'm involved into is over. www.tibetanpainting.com is what i've been doing all this week.
Don't forget to check it, how it has been done.
From the site:
"The Tibetan word "Thangka" refers to the flat cloth on which paintings are produced and by extension to the images and paintings themselves.
The Tibetan art of Thangka painting is at once a folk, traditional, and sacred art: folk because it is an expression of what is essential to the Tibetan people's culture, aspirations, and principles of living; traditional because it is taught, studied, practiced, and produced according to an established, precisely transmitted body of craft and contemplative knowledge which is, in turn, a vehicle for the essence of Tibetan Buddhism; and sacred because its form and content make of this phenomenal world a manifest "bridge" to, or expression of, the inconceivable, primordial, ultimate Reality, from which (as the Tibetan Buddhist tradition teaches) "all dharmas" arise and return."

Let's be proud of being Nepali
Prashant Tamang, an Indian of Nepalese origin, once again gave Nepalese around the world reason to be proud of our glorious past. By profession a policeman and singer, Prashant is the first contestant of Nepalese-Indian origin to win the coveted title "Indian Idol 2007".
Native of Tungsung, Darjeeling in West Bengal, Prashant Tamang is the only son of Rupa Tamang and her late husband, police officer Madan Tamang. He has one sister.
India's modern history is not complete without calling up the names of many brave and talented Indians of Nepalese origin. Many of us are unaware that the composer of India's national anthem and the song 'Jana Gana Mana', was the late Capt. Ram Singh Thakur, also of Nepalese origin.
During the Indian Independence Movement, thousands of Nepalese and Indians of Nepalese origin fought the colonial British Raj and sacrified their lives for the freedom of India. Nepalese Indian martyrs Major Durga Malla (executed in Old Delhi Jail, near Delhi Gate-August 24, 1944) and Capt. Dalbahadur Thapa (executed at Central jail, near Lal Killa, Delhi-May 3, 1945) were among the Indians who were executed by British Raj.
77 years ago (1930) when Mahatma Gandhi launched his famous Salt Satyagraha (Salt March), the most inspiring event in the history of the freedom movement of India, there were two Nepalese (Mahavir Giri and Kharag Bahadur Singh Giri) among 78 other satyagrahha marchers.
2500 years ago, Gautam Buddha, who is known as 'Light of Asia', was born in Lumbini, Nepal but his enlightenment was attained in Bodh Gaya, India. Most of his life-long preaching took place in Northern India and thus enriched the ancient Indian philosophy by spreading the message of love and peace.
Be proud to be a Nepalese (Nepali). Celebrate the success of Prashant and spread the news of the glorious present and past of Indians of Nepalese origin.

Enough of a Day!!!!
Past few days, i am not being able to update my blog regularly, reason? it's obvious, it's new place and i've to learn so many new things. Tradition, culture and people, they all are different here. Rules and regulations are another aspects. Besides, i'm on revamp project of one old website of my father. That's taking my lots of time. Technical aspect is okay but writing/editing, they too are being done. So, it's time consuming. Have been working on it as soon as i landed on this country. When i finish the site, i'll put some words here too. So, i was preparing and designing those web stuffs, suddenly, father told us to get ready. What else,we got ready and headed towards 3 hours long drive to San Francisco. The place where we lived is called Santa Cruz. It's located just near the sea and at evening, it's glowing to watch the wonderful sunset. And from Santa Cruz to San Francisco, driving is 3 hours. We drove by the coastal area watching all the seashores and beauty of sea. Time passed fast and 3 hours was like a easy go. i've lots of tech topics coming up right now but i've to do that in time. Just to make sure, i still am alive, this post goes here with the ugly pictures of mine taken in this beautiful heaven called Santa Cruz ..ahh.. included San Francisco.
This one is in Santa Cruz, and behind, all the roller coaster and stuff for total entertainment.
Near by the sea but we're way up.,Bro and myself
This is a seal taking rest. i caught him/her i dunno the gender on my cam, while i was on evening walk along the sea side and there was this huge half bridge which is made up of wooden
This one is cool sunset while we're going to San Francisco
I'm on the twin peak tower mountain or something like that, i forgot the name and below, it's a beautiful San Francisco city. So well-settled.
Again myself, cheering myself watching all those beautiful sceneries and cities.
See!!! that's the San Francisco city behind us. That's cool. Again, brother and me on the top of the mountain :)
Father and myself!!! Same place.. eh. must be wondering why am i turning side, cos, sunlight was straight on my face and when i look at straight to sunlight, i look like a monkey with those tiny eyes doing chim-chim-chim, so couldn't face the camera and besides, i broke my glass today and i had to remain that way, whole day. Even the normal glass to make here would cost me around $150-$200. I nearly jumped off the hill when i was told that but somehow i helped myself. Tommorrow, i'm getting one from here after father assured me life goes that way over here. And, if i don't get the good deal at my bargained rate, i'm gonna get help of my relatives back there in Nepal to send power glass to me by express mail. Posted by Navin 5 comments Links to this post

Prashant Tamang -A Nepalese in Indian Idol 3

Update (Sept 8, 2007): PRASHANT TAMANG has reached top two position in Indian Idol and it's the ultimate waiting for fans all over the world to see the result. Who would win?? will it be PRASHANT TAMANG or amit? Today, amit got maximum votes whereas PRASHANT TAMANG got more than 50 lakhs SMS votes. Now, nobody can predict who would win because, they both are excellent competitors to each other. After seeing such a huge fan following for both of these titans, it's hard to predict who would win. But still my vote will go for Prashant for he is competing with a trained contender whereas he is untrained. Prashant sang 'Bhigey hoth tere" spontaneously last time. But those judges(Adnan and Javed) didn't step back to fire their harsh comments on him. They've no right to comment him that way at this very stage. May be their intentions is to divert public's vote to Amit and that happened strangely.

COMING 23rd September's night would be massive live telecast of 2 hours in the evening. That would be the end of this years Indian Idol. Sony will market new voice, Sony will market their brand as like it's doing with Abhijeet Sawaant. I doubt if it would be Prashant because, even if Prashant would become No 1 with public's vote, i feel somewhere, that those SonyTV won't let that happen. And, at the same time, i feel, this is the same SonyTV who let bad singer like Kazi Toqir win in Fame Gurukul. Kazi was over-confident stupid chap with bad voice. Prashant is far more better than him. Lets wish GOOD LUCK for him.
PRASHANT TAMANG has reached TOP 3 and Today, Ankita would be out according to someone who has been taking part in Indian Idol shooting since few weeks. According to him, Indian Idol Gala for next week is being shot now, today Saturday,Sept 1st.
Prashant Tamang ,24, whose family background relates to Nepal and hails from Darjeeling is one of a proud singer to represent all Nepalese in one of India's Most popular musical TV Show 'Indian Idol'. Currently, he works for Calcutta police where once his father served. After the death of his father in an accident, he got recruited in his place and is serving well in Calcutta police orchestra too.
NOTE: I've made this Post Sticky considering it's relevancy these days. There is PRASHANT TAMANG fever growing day by day. Let's involve in it. PRASHANT TAMANG be the next Indian Idol. Best of luck!!!
July,4,2007 Update : Added newspaper cuttings showing news on Prashant Tamang
August 10,2007 Update: Abhishek Kumar(who made a short comeback as a guest appearance on Indian Idol's RU-BA-RU programme) thinks only PRASHANT TAMANG deserves to be an Indian Idol.
August 11,2007 Update: Anu Malik admires PRASHANT TAMANG as Outstanding singer/performer and strong candidate to be an Indian Idol.
Prashant Tamang !!! Keep rocking !!! seems you are going to be an Indian Idol

Indian Idol is the ditto copy program of American Idol. All the contestants are musical colossals and are well-versed in their singing talent. There are three judges for this 'Indian Idol 3', Javed Akhtar, Alisha Chinoi and Udit Narayan whose judging eyes can't escape even the minor faults of the singers. Some times they dig more of it. This time i'm watching this show because i came to know that One Nepalese is struggling for his ground on this foreign land who is none other than Prashant Tamang.
Regarding judges:
Javed Akhtar: i personally never liked this old man, husband of sabna aajmi(indian actress) and whose son looks even older than him but ever since, he started to talk for Prashant Tamang, i started to like this old man's comment. This old man is awarded with the India's most reputed award. He is writer, critics and so. But i don't know why this old man is judging indian's singing talents who has nothing to take and give with singing. His 'Dekhiye.. ' is very irritating.
Alisha Chinoy: If i'm not wrong than this woman is not married yet and who thinks herself as a teenage girl. But truly, her voice is amazing and her songs are very beautiful. No matter if a good looking guy has made a minor issues or not, she just ignores them and finds issues on girls singing. Personally, i hate this woman too but i like her songs.
Udit Narayan: This man is chameleon type. He boldly claims he is Nepalese when he is in Nepal and again boldly claims he is Indian when he is in India. May be because of this his dual character, he got two wives. He really got ripped last time because of this polygamy thing. But now, that's settled and he's one of the judge. No matter what, we know he is Nepalese and i'm in favour of him too. He's the man with the golden voice. In indian idol 3, i'm getting irritated with his ' lekin, parantu, blah blah '
Now, if i could, i would have voted for Prashant Tamang too. He is one hellava singer. He is now in Top 6 till yesterday(friday). But i know who is the next Indian Idol this time i.e

How i Connected my wi-fi Laptop to Desktop PC with the help of D-Link Router
Yesterday, i went to local downtown shopping center with my Father. He had lost his At&T cingular phone back there in Nepal. He suspects some CHOR(thief) taxi driver must have done that since he lost that in Taxi. He deactivated that service then in Nepal since it has roaming service all around the world. For me, At&T is good because yesterday,in downtown mall of San Francisco,it's local agent provided extra SIM to my father and they activated the suspended service. He put his SIM to my N70, i profiled it according to his choice and it worked great.
Back to home, i was thinking how to hook up my laptop with my father's aDSL broadband connection. I've been used to wired networking, cross-cabling and straight cabling, all the color-matching of individual pair of colors so that it could work in switch/hub for straight cabling or cross-cabling in direct connection between two PCs. In Nepal also, we've router to meet the need of wireless connection for home but i never used router when i was in Nepal. I only knew the basics of what it is and what it does. Now, father has this D-link DI524 router connected to his desktop Dell computer unaware of what it does. One of his friend from Bhutan tried to solve the unsolved mystery why other wi-fi devices are not connecting to the internet the router passes. My father told me, his friend who is computer technician by nature gave up. The same venture was going to be started by me. I had to start where he left. This wireless connectivity was totally a new concept for me. I really didn't know from where to start and finally, i determined and built confidence in myself and started to put some logic. I took little bit of help from google, tried to search some knowledge base, entered irc junction of some geeks, took some live chat support but all of them were crap. Someone in IRC acted like he's trying to help me but instead ended up giving me the details what he has on his machine rather than giving me the precise solutions.
My problem scenario was like this:
aDSL modem - aDSL line is a phone line which connects to the special modem called aDSL modem. This is something when phone never goes busy signal even if it's put into use as data transfer. I mean same phone line can be used for calling and for surfing net. In Nepal, if we are online, we can't make phone calls but this aDSL thing is different. This is the same phone line with RJ11 jack which connects to a modem(aDSL) and then to a PC's ethernet port.
To simplify this concept even more, lets check this figure:

In this figure above, blue line is a telephone line with RJ11 jack and red line is mere ethernet cat5 cable with RJ45 jack. Now, we can simply assume how aDSL modem made up of. It has ports for RJ45,RJ11 and one DC port for powering it up. So, phone line(blue line in figure) connects to RJ11 port of aDSL modem, then the modem has to transfer data to PC which is done by the ethernet cable(Red line in figure). That's it.
This things were simply got into my head. There was this D-link router. Now, that was the part which started giving my head a lot of confusions. I figured out, someway, data has to pass on Router and then it would relay the packets through it's antenna wirelessly.
D-Link Router - I only knew router is something which routes or passes the packets(data) across the networks. Here, it's wireless Router because, it has to pass the data through certain frequency. I checked the back of D-Link router and found there were ports like WAN, LAN1, LAN2, LAN3 and LAN4 and one tiny hole (just like in CD DRIVE for emergency ejection using needle or paperclip) and of course DC jack for powering it up.
Simple logic made me clear how it should go. The ethernet cable which was connecting from aDSL modem to the back up of PC's ethernet port, now has to go to WAN port of the router. and from the router, using the LAN1 port, a new ethernet cable(which comes bundle with router) has to be attached to ethernet port of PC. This was the simple logic i used and it worked for sometime without problem, without needing to configure a line in windows. I turned on the Wireless button on my laptop and tried to connect the router, because it showed the available networks. I selected the router's computer name and promptly was using Internet off the router. It went fine for few minutes and suddenly, i had no connection on my laptop. I checked on Desktop PC too, there too was no connection. Connection was dead on both computers.

I tried it for many times, and same thing happened. Connection for few minutes and then nothing. If i disconnect the router, it worked flawlessly, i mean internet was accessible but when i connected the router, same thing happened. After searching net for sometimes, i found to reset the router. Resetting is to insert the paper-clip on the reset hole on the back of router which in fact reset back the router's settings to default.
I did that, i checked the routers manual and entered 192.168.0.1 on my browser, through which i could tweaks lots of routers settings. this time, i was fiddling around with the software part because, i knew there was nothing wrong in hardware installation. I changed the password, i created new encryption key. Now, i turned on my laptop, i enabled the wireless and whao, it detected my router, and hence i connected inno time. I checked internet on both systems and this time it went more than 15 minutes and i confirmed, resetting the router did the magic. Read more It's Interesting!

Lufthansa Airlines to carry Broadband internet by the end of this year
On Sept 14,2007, when i was leaving my country on a plane, i really didn't know much about the luxuries am going to have on board. Those cute air hostesses serving diet foods on regular interval is something i really appreciate. Besides, the video watching sucked bigtime. I had 3 flights and one left me with much impression. It was CHINA airlines from Thailand to Taipei. Seats were very comfortable and moreover we had that little geeky touch screen attached with the seats where i could play games, watch movies(i guess recorded and customized by the airlines itself), and view GPS position of the flight realtime. The only thing i felt lacking was Internet.
Back to home in San Francisco, took rest for couple of days due to jetlag. And now, finally i'm back to normal and adapting to environment out here. I was still wishing if those flights would have internet access so that i could do online things, reading news, chatting with buddies, checking mails and so.

Well, Lufthansa Airlines(Germany Airlines) has first come up with the idea of carrying first broadband internet service to all it's planes and for free to it's passengers.

This Innovative idea has marked Lufthansa Airlines in the pages of history as the first airlines to boast broadband internet onboard. Since Germany(Lufthansa Airlines) has made deal with BOEING on this respect, i'm sure in coming days, more and more airlines would provide the same service. Lufthansa is currently giving this trial service to selected flight routes only and by the end of this year, it'll be the full-fledged service to all of it's passengers. Read more It's Interesting!

My Trip to San Francisco, USA
14 Sept 2007 -> Today is my departure date. I'm leaving my country Nepal at 2 pm. It was a very busy, hectic and tensed moments since morning. Almost all my relatives, friends and family members gathered to see-off us.
At around 11:00 am, all of them were there. It was a huge crowd out there. My mother was crying like baby as if she is not gonna see us ever. But she's is mom and may be she is going to miss us. Her eyes were swollen due to crying.
Since it's flight(Thai Airlines) at 2:00 pm, we've to get to airport around an hour earlier but thinking the 'Teej'(Nepali Women's festival) and the Traffic Jam it would cause from the Boudha to Airport route, we already headed towards Airport at around 12:00 pm. Still we couldn't make it in time. It was worst JAM i've ever seen. We stuck for an hour in that JAM and later someone let us know about the shortcut. We followed that route and in the way, requested Traffic police to have way for us and they let us go conveniently.
So, at around 1:15, our Uncle Awu Lakpa and Samden were there little earlier than us and were waiting for us. They were more than happy for us. We exchanged best regards and marched towards the airport checking queue. Awu's waived goodbye to us and i was cursing this festival Teej which deprived lots of my known ones to come there at time. Whatever, all the luggage and document checkings were done and finally my father and we two brothers were on board. We flew for Thailand Transit and it took around 3 hours to reach there.
It was my first experience on plane and i was real scared to death experience when it took off. I had been to chartered chopper before and i didn't find it that scary but this boeing plane really made me scared at first. I felt if it would go down or something like that. It's passe now. After that, i changed two more planes and i didn't feel that much fear like in first one. So, when we reached thailand, it was already 6:30 pm but my wrist-watch was showing me around 5:00 pm NST. So, on the way, i lost around one and half hour of Nepalese time.
That evening we stayed at NOVOTEL hotel of Thailand and it was one of the good hotel in Bankok. Very luxurious, stylish and design was nicely engineered. Before we take a nap, we thought to take a quick tour of thailand and a cab driver CHOW was at our service. He was a good guide and cab driver for us as he let us know so many things about Thailand. His cab was one of the best and it's even better than the most expensive car owner's car in Nepal. Highways were so subtle, clean and much much developed. Overhead crossed highways, big multi-lanes roads.wow.. they were all great. I really enjoyed being there. Weather was little hotter than in Nepal and people were so friendly out there. Much civilized than Nepalese. Last word, Thailand has been a great short tour for us. And, Thailand is developed city. May be there are many poor livings in the countryside but still, the capital city can compete with the charms of the developed western cities.
And, we took a bath at NOVOTEL hotel, had dinner and slept. Next morning, we're onboard for Taipei,Taiwan- our next transit. This time it's China airlines with all the fancy stuffs inside. I watched movie, played games and used GPS. It was all attached to the the seats and looked quite scientific. That foldable mini screen looked like some fancy gadget from sci-fi movies. Whatever, i enjoyed this flight a lot and didn't notice much like how fast the 4 hours time passed.
Later, we were on Taiwan Airport and we had to wait there for 3 hours to get onboard for our next flight to San Francisco. So, 3 hours were so much for me. I was searching to eat some food and found a place where 'free wi-fi internet' was written. I took out my laptop and connected to that cafe's router. It was easy go and i started surfing internet while eating sandwiches. The connection speed is very high. I really felt glad. Time passed and we were on board for San Francisco. We're told it's approx. 8 hours flight which for me was going to be very tiresome and tedious journey. Some how i didn't notice it as long as i thought because i slept onboard and it was night flight and when we landed San Francisco it's 7 pm in the evening. Friend of my father came to receive us and we headed for our residence. By the time we reached our home, it was midnight, i couldn't sleep since i already slept in Plane and again it's a night to go. So, i slept very late that evening(That was Saturday evening in USA).
Today, here it's Sunday evening 10:34 pm and in Nepal, it's 11:15 am early in the Monday morning.

This is my last post
This is my last post. So far, i've posted so many things on different topics. Many people appreciated it. The proof is lots of emails i get thanking me for putting up some worthwhile topics. I really don't know what motivated me to blog but it's just the transition from paper to computer. I used to write my things on paper but with this blog, i'm doing things completely on computers. My lots of habit have changed overtime. And i don't regret. This is also my last post because, now on i'm not writing any words for this blog. So many topics came into my mind and mostly i put my thoughts which is tech-related. Being fun-loving in nature (though at first, i'm bit reserved but once getting to know each-other, i'm a wild animal) my most of the blogposts are also dedicated towards humor and satire.
