if i was born 10 years before...
if i was born 10 years before
my age would have been 24
it would have been best day of my life
when i would marry her and make my wife
The way she looks way she walks
i love everything cause she rocks
her black long hair and that charming face
when she's near the heart beat escalates
but i don't know who is guilty here
to send me on earth after long year
though i like i can't love her it is so bitter
but this is the truth i can't get what i prefer
i really hate this......
::
if i was born 10 years later
i would have been 4 and that's better
it would've been carefree life for sure,
this cute little girl making me allured
i really like the way she dances
the feeling is different of these trances
i can't stop staring though i want to
her lovely smile riveting it's damn cool
but i don't know who should i blame for this
i am 14 now she wants to be my lil sis
though i like i can't love her it is so bitter
but this is the truth i can't get what i prefer
i really hate this......
i've been noticing this guy
it's been few days he's been around
i wonder who is he waiting for
the way he's dressed up i mean look at his eager
he looks desparate cause he sighed
he must have felt as if she just lied
yet he looks calm and hasn't lost his cool
is it april 1...i think she made him april fool
[chorus]
he watches the watch again
turns around and stares that alleyway
it probably is the way she would come from
innocent little face
oh it's quite long he's been waiting...........
ain't she coming ?
5 gums must been chewed by now
his gelled hair's has started to lean down
i can smell the perfume he has used from up here
even his cell didn't seem to work so he sneered
[chorus]
(March 24th on 25th)
I was fed up of watching TV
I was feeling bore guess it was 5:30
Then I switched on my computer
Cause I didn’t wanted to get much borer
After I got my XP window opened
My favorite play list I put them on
Then I dialed up my internet account
Meanwhile I was down with green day sound
After that I signed in msn messenger
Hoped for online friend and there it was her
Thought she would start but I was wrong
I started chat and asked about her favorite song
[Chorus]
..................still thinking
I don’t know why she wanted to go that soon
The last time we chatted guess it was 7th of June
Before she went I reminded promise she made
To call me on my cell before I go to bed
But now I think I was fooled she didn’t call
Did she dissed me or she got some trouble
[Chorus]
this our friendship
we'll never ever break
though i stop to breathe
i won't let go of you my friend
my victory's your victory
your downfall my downfall
hey pal listen to this
your sorrow is my sorrow
my life is your life too
this is how our friendship is
i'd even risk myself
for you i'd go against
everybody else
These songs are written by my young cousin bro:

Internet BlackOUT within few years
Researchers say that within few years, Internet could reach at one certain state where it couldn't handle any data transfer at all. That means, we wouldn't be able to surf internet at all.
If we see back to those old days and just think for a moment, how internet has been evolved, then as Google said once, internet was not really designed for TV. I mean, it was just a page and the links to another pages and so, which was termed as 'hypertext'. Gradually, images, sounds and animation started to take over the internet world. With this, different web applications appeared and recently wide implementation of Flash on Internet has changed that face of internet. With this flash scripting technology, people are sharing enormous amount of videos and movies online. YouTube is one example. Millions of hits(videos gets downloaded/uploaded) every day for videos. There are companies which broadcasts streaming TV and audio(music/fm etc) online. With the rise of peer-to-peer, people started sharing even more and more TV,video, software contents leading to terabytes and terabytes of data transfer every few minutes.
All these activities are hitting hard on internet backbone. It's going beyond the limit and if nobody takes the initiatives to handle this situation, there will be no internet in coming days.
The initiatives or say preventive measure is to invest billions of dollars to improvise the Internet technology and overhaul the overall structure.
A flood of new video and other Web content could overwhelm the Internet by 2010 unless backbone providers invest up to $137 billion in new capacity, more than double what service providers plan to invest, according to the study, by Nemertes Research Group, an independent analysis firm. In North America alone, backbone investments of $42 billion to $55 billion will be needed in the next three to five years to keep up with demand, Nemertes said.
Close to three-quarters of U.S. Internet users watched an average of 158 minutes of video in May and viewed more than 8.3 billion video streams, according to research from comScore, an analysis group.
According to some research, this year only.. internet users will create 161 exabytes of data. (Umm.. 1 exabyte equals to 1.1 billion gigabytes for your kind information).
This never ending proliferating of internet videos and streaming TV content, is surely gonna leave many side effects. Big companies like Google are really worried about the fact and they are consulting for the solution.
So,lets see what happens in coming days.

My first ever driving lesson
Everytime, everything you do, starts from first attempt or say every new thing you try/do is first time for you. And more and more repititive attempt makes you perfect in everything. But there is a different taste and amusement in your everything first time. You'll never feel that amusement in second times and gradually, it fades out. I felt that zeal yesterday, that was concoction of fear, excitement and hastiness. I really love to try newthings in life. And, i'll keep doing that for ever.
The point:::--
Yesterday, i took a driving lesson from my father. And, i drove around a mile back and forth. This was my first time driving ever. I hadn't touch steering before. But somehow I managed to drive for 1 mile(veterans, please don't laugh at me ). I still have so many things to learn. First I really need to build my confidence and i'm sure that eventually, it'll grow. Next time, i won't be that scared.
I took a lot of online help on driving before i actually sat on the driving seat. I even found couple of Youtube videos which described which/what parts of cars. Some even gave some formula. I learnt all that beforehand. So, when i sat on the seat yesterday, i was really scared but was driving smoothly. I just needed some explanations from my father at times. I think what i need is the level of confidence UP.
The reason to post this is because, when i see myself from the point where i'll be expert driver and recalling back to the point where i was just learning driving. That would be pure fun. I wish i had a video journal of when i first learnt bicycle and motorbike.
My video of how i drove for the first time(inside):

My RoboPet
I've always been fascinated by robots. And, it's great esteem to own my first robotic pet. May be the robotic toy that right now,i'm talking about is not new but few years old. Because, i saw it then in "Biswa Ghatna"(local nepalese TV Program) about this robotic toy. Back then, it was awesome but still when i bought it today, it's awesome. There were other Robotic toys(robosapiens and so) which were very expensive to own and could be programmed through PC from USB port.
Being dog lover, i chose RoboPet. RoboPet is name for Robotic Dog. The things i liked about it is, it can virtually do all things that a real dog can do except pee and shit. I really had a great fun trying to understand and play around with it. In fact, i didn't have any intention to purchase this thing. It was a sudden buy because, we were searching for gifts for my aunt's daughter whose birthday was today. So, we purchased this thing for her actually, and i thought to buy one for myself too. I've always been fond of electronic gadgets and i really do pay attention how they work. I found, RoboPet has infrared sensor on it's head. It can detect any movements. There is another technology called ED i.e Edge Detection which can detect Edge and if you leave this thing on Table, it won't fall. Because it will back up as soon as it senses there's a fall ahead. It does this by it's infrared image reception of nearby objects. You can control it with Remote Control and if you don't want to use Remote Control, it becomes Autonomous. It's the autonomous state where it uses it's AI(artificial intelligence). During it's autonomous, we can see it doing things on it's mood. If we praise it, it is encouraged to do activities that we praised for more and more and if we don't praise it at all, it becomes silent or may be it takes short sleep. So, this thing acts just like a real dog. I mean, we can command it using the Remote Control and when we don't use any remote control, it plays at it's own. It even follows us if it sees us. And, if I configure it to bark on stranger, as soon as someone goes nearby,it jumps and makes loud noises and starts barking in electronic sound. It's really cool. It can do more than 9 tricks and it's really fun to see all those tricks.
I've recorded video of RoboPet and myself playing. It's inside.
This video shows RoboPet executing one trick.

My first Hiking and Thanks Giving day
Today, it's Thursday. And it was wonderful Thanks Giving day. BUT... early in the morning, we thought to go for hiking on the mountains.
Well, the venue was located to 20 miles away west from our residence. It's called Wilder Range State Park. We drove for 10 minutes and we reached there. I looked up and it was huge mountain. I was told that we have to hike back and forth that mountain. It was almost 4 hours walk. At first, i was so reluctant to hike that long but once i started, i couldn't stop myself and wished i could hike second time too. It was wonderful wonderful experience today. We walked all the way from the ground to up up on the mountain, we crossed from the jungles and walked on and on. The energy was immense because of the beautiful weather and the aroma inside the woods. That kept me walking without a weariness. I even took a short run for approximately 500 meters. My father was bit astonished to see my energy level. During the whole hiking, i was the first walking on the group. And, yeah, i also had an encounter with wild dogs. I tried to take their pictures but they got scared and ran away. They just looked like hyenas. I was frightened but later collected all my courage and tried to take couple of snaps, ran after them and tried my best to take their closest picture. Today, weather was so good and we didn't miss to take pictures of ourselves too.
Let me also mention something about this Thanks Giving day from my own perspective. Thanks Giving day is the day where people wishes and thanks each other for all the good things they got. Usually, a person gets a huge hollow Turkey and inside, he usually puts mashed potatoes and other eatables with incredients. This is called stuffing. Then he cooks it in oven. What else, by the evening, friends and relatives visits and the guests are served with wine, apple cider, wine, apple pie, pumpkin pie and most importantly Turkey with other delicacies. But before celebration, one of them chants some blessings and afterward feast begins. It's good. I was part of this celebration today. We visited to one of the close relative of my aunt and we had a great time out there. We talked to many people out there. I enjoyed learning about new culture out there.

Write in Nepali without Nepali Unicode installed
Google Indic Transliteration service helps us to convert Roman characters to the Devanagari characters used both in Hindi and Nepali. Though this Indic Transliteration is mainly based on Hindi devnagari, it's undoubtedly useful for converting into Nepali devanagari too since both hindi and nepali have the same syllabic script for writing. Therefore, it's useful for us(Nepali) too.
The usefulness of this online Indic Transliteration is that you don't have to go through the hassles of installing Nepali unicode software. So, anyone without Nepali Unicode too can use this service and start writing in Nepali.
You type words phonetically in English script and it would get correctly trasliterated. For example: typing 'Mero' would be मेरो.
In addition to that,if the word is not what you desired, you'll be prompted to select most probable words you are trying to write. It's way too good. I tried other online unicode writer, but found this one quite useful.
Thats it.
here is the link where you can type Nepali without any trouble.

What happens if a Meteor hits Earth
This one is real scary imagination. What happens if an oversized meteor hits earth?
Please have big breathe before watching it.
I think whoever did this, they rightly calculated the catastrophe it would bring. May be the entire dinosaurs era were wiped out because of some incident like this.

My Google PageRank!!!
Did you know who are the masterminds behind google? Well,.. it's Larry Page and(i forgot the another name...)Serjey Brin(after little google search, i found Brin)
PageRank is named after Larry Page and he's the one who first thought of the first sleek super search engine.
Anyway, to get detail idea on Page Rank's working pattern, again.. GOOGLE it. But, if i've to describe briefly, Page Rank shows how popular your site on the basis of number assigned to it. Google's pagerank is limited to numeral value of upto 10. If some sites have 7/10 PR, they are extremely popular. and someone has 0/10, that site is not popular and not optimized for google. I can't say that for just released sites. There is exception for newly launched sites. PR has to be earned, it's not something to be assigned or given. If my site has unique visitors growing day by day and the backlinks to my site is not fake but quality content-rich, then my PR will grow. High numbered PR also shows that site is optimized for google. And whoever does the relevant search, there is maximum chance for site with high PR to appear first. This is my understanding. If you want to learn the core technical aspects of Google's Pagerank, then you've to search it on Google. You'll learn how complex it's algorithm is.
The reason, i'm writing this post is because, lots of people are seeing unexpected declination to their PR(PageRank) status. Some even reached 0/10 from their earlier PR of 4/10 or 5/10.
I checked mine and it's still there where it was before. My blog www.meroguff.com has proudly attained 3/10 PR. ...
I can see the number of quality visitors growing from the statcounter.com script that's silently watching my visitors(respecting their privacy). I had to make statcounter.com silent and invisible on my blog because some commenters were real nasty and leaving harsh comments. I really needed to find them and that's why i put statcounter.com silently. Right now, amazingcounters.com(at the bottom) is showing the number of visitors but deep within, statcounter.com(hidden) feeds me with the all informations i need, like IP address, location, ISP,time of visiting .. everything.
I mean, i know the real truth(truth that real visitors visiting) and i deserved PR of 3/10. Besides, the linking links in my blog are also not the AD or cheated scripted links to get higher search position.
People must understand that Google is growing intelligent day by day and respect it's policy. Trying to trick the google policy to get high earn rate or high search position, is detrimental in long run. I found such other sites whose PR gone down, were using some sort of tricks or altered methods on their site.
I tried to find other sites who lost their PR on google.

ERD Commander 2005
When Winternals launched ERD Commander 2005, it was the PC technician's best friend. It is still PC technician's best friend.
What can ERD Commander 2005 do?
ERD Commander, as i wrote earlier, is a set of tools used to repair PC refusing to boot(Be it Windows 98/ME/XP/2000/Vista). ERD Commander gives access to all the files on a non-working PC. With this, one can recover the precious files to other storage media. There are various tools which are the most important ones to take care of corrupted file system.
Where can i get it?
Winternals(a company)once existed and it used to sell ERD Commander 2005 as it's product. Now, Winternals offerings are no longer available for purchase. Because, Microsoft purchased the company.
However, you can download(approx 62 MB) it (ERD Commander 2005) from the links below:
http://rapidshare.com/files/42768285/WERDC.rar
OR
http://rapidshare.com/files/42769420/WERDC.rar
Once you get the file, unrar it and burn the image iso file into CD using NERO BURNING ROM or any other ISO to CD burning software. The burnt CD will be bootable and you'll be able to boot from it.
For example:
You can also use "ERD Commander 2005" to Reset the Window's XP's Admin or any other XP username passwords easy way.
- Boot from the CD
- Click Start-->System Tools
- Click LockSmith

Gmail Inbox mails dissappearing mysteriously
Jeneane Sessum writes in her blog that her Gmail inbox has been completely wiped out.
Is it technical flaw or something else?
It's not only Jeneane Sessum, but there is a entire thread and forum dedicated to discuss why people's Gmail inbox mails are dissappearing.
To get more idea on it, ..

How to save yourself from phishing scam and other online crookedness
One day a businessman Mr. Hari Sir(who doesn't have much grip on computers) who used computer for accessing his online bank details, checking important mails and market survey, found his password is not letting him inside his accounts. Out of frustrations, he tried everything possibly he could imagine and do but to no avail. Could you imagine situation like this?? When our personal informations, login details are no more secured and could be easily compromised.
Around a week ago, all of a sudden, my brother's email address stopped responding to his regular password which he usually checks in with. The computer he had used was the secured one, because i personally set up all the firewalls and latest updates on antivirus software which turned out to be of useless crap. How were his passwords stolen?
Recently, Alicia Keys Myspace account had been an issue here. Whoever visited her profile on Myspace and clicked somewhere on the page, were taken to forged infected site which asked to download some sort of video codec. what else, people downloaded thinking it was some sort of video codec but in return they were installing virus onto their computer. Whoever downloaded that codec, their informations were stolen. They were left ripped off. How do they(stealer) do it??
Well, if you are witty enough, no one can fool you. Hackers are always using innovative techniques to intrude into peoples personal stuffs. Their new techniques are way beyond the scope of latest antivirus(or any other anti-malware) to snatch it.
Some of the techniques, they've used and i've noticed are: -
1. They send you authenticate looking emails of your accounts requesting you to change something on your account.
- If you've an account in Well's Fargo bank(www.wellsfargo.com), you may get some emails requesting you to change some details. You may get FROM: support@wellsfargo.com . It surely does looks genuine and you may be easily deceived. Clicking any links on that email will take you to unexpected hassles, worries and sorrows. Because, Banks would rarely ask you for anything in email.
SO, DON'T DON'T CLICK ANY OF THOSE LINKS. To confirm, call your bank and ask if they sent any of such emails.
2. Today, we live in two worlds. Real and online world. Usually, online or virtual world is also termed as Second life. With the advent of this reality, we are forced to involved into some sort of online social network. Started with the purpose of scheduling meeting and conference among big corporate businessess, it has gone wide and now, today, even a 12 years are actively involved into social networking sites like myspace,facebook,hi5,etc.
One thing, these social networking sites are at high risk of exploits because, they keep sending notification emails of this and that. If someone adds you, you get a notification email and so. They really have to change this. Instead of sending links on their notification emails, they just do it only for notifying. Hi5,myspace,facebook etc still send you notification mails with links on it. Do you believe, all of these network sites are equally compromised too. If you ever get notification mails from these sites, just check what's in it. Then go to address bar, login to your site by typing full address and check for new inbox mails or friends added/requests etc. NEVER EVER CLICK ANY OF THE LINKS ON NOTIFICATION MAILS PRETENDED TO BE SENT BY SUCH SITES. We will never know if it's genuine one or fake one. So, being smart sometimes pays off.
3. You've downloaded almost all multimedia plugins for feature-rich multimedia experience on your browser. Then why the heck, some sites sometimes ask you to install some strange looking video codecs? Simple, to infect your system. You know you've all the codecs needed to play video or listen to online music. And, you are able to play almost all video files online, listen to all streaming songs. And, if you are still asked to install some plugins(codec)?? then DON'T EVER CLICK 'ACCEPT' or 'OK' button? DON'T EVER DO THAT. BE SAFE and just get away from such sites. ACTIVEX were coded to make good use of online experience but some bad guys have started coding browser applications(ACTIVEX) for deceitful purposes.
Now, what could be the reasons for 3 cases in the very first paragraphs of this post.?
Well, Mr Hari Sir clicked links on the email thinking it was sent by his bank.
My brother clicked on links sent by social networking site which weren't genuine. I checked that personally and that was my conclusion.
And for Alicia key's case, people downloaded codecs and there login details were stolen. Some local bands's details were also stolen as soon as they downloaded those malware codecs.
And, I normally see some people putting same passwords for all his logins. Never do that. Keep different passwords for your logins. If you use nick as 'Stallon' everywhere on internet, passwords should be different on wherever you go. Because, if one account got hacked, the hacker may not access your other accounts. Whereever you are involved online is just a 'search keyword' away from hackers.
One last thing, you've an email address like something@somthing.com and your password is 'password'. And some sites may want you to use your email address as your login details. NEVER EVER use your email's password as that site's login password. Always keep changing passwords for different sites if they want your email as their login name.
Well, that's all about phishing scam and other online fraudulent activities. Phishing is nothing but act of attracting internet user to reveal personal details (like passwords and credit card information) on a fake web page or email form pretending to come from a legitimate company (like their bank)
STAY SMART, STAY SAFE.

Microsoft Surface
Backed by 25 years old technology 'Multi-touch' limited to only selected groups and organisations, Microsoft is planning to launch something big commercially in coming days. It's called Microsoft surface.
Announced on May 29,2007 at D5 conference, Microsoft is planning to make it available in the global market scenario by the spring,2008.
When i first heard and read about this technology, i was so tempted to use it and i still have that wish to see this technology in use, someday..umm..
Microsoft Surface - How It Works
Surface is essentially a Windows Vista PC tucked inside a black table base, topped with a 30-inch touchscreen in a clear acrylic frame. Five cameras that can sense nearby objects are mounted beneath the screen. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by setting real-world items tagged with special barcode labels on top of it.
Microsoft Surface (Codename: Milan), is a forthcoming Multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions, hand gestures, or physical objects. Initial customers will be in the hospitality businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, retail, and public entertainment venues.
Surface has been optimized to respond to 52 touches at a time. During a demonstration with a reporter, Mark Bolger, the Surface Computing group's marketing director, "dipped" his finger in an on-screen paint palette, then dragged it across the screen to draw a smiley face. Then he used all 10 fingers at once to give the face a full head of hair.
In addition to recognizing finger movements, Microsoft Surface can also identify physical objects. Microsoft says that when a diner sets down a wine glass, for example, the table can automatically offer additional wine choices tailored to the dinner being eaten.
Prices will reportedly be $5,000 to $10,000 per unit. However Microsoft said it expects prices to drop enough to make consumer versions feasible in 3 to 5 years.

Seagate ships virus-laden hard drives
If you bought one of Seagate's Maxtor Basics consumer hard drives recently, check it for viruses. Especially if you're a gamer.
Seagate is warning that a "small number" of its Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 hard drives recently shipped with the Virus.Win32.AutoRun.ah virus, malicious software that "searches for passwords for online games and sends them to a server located in China," according to a note posted on the Seagate Web site. Only drives purchased since August 2007 are affected, Seagate said.
The hard drive maker is blaming an unnamed subcontractor, located in China, for the problem. Seagate said it learned about the problem from anti-virus vendor Kaspersky Lab. According to published reports, Seagate has had problems with Maxtor Basics drives sold over the past few months in the Netherlands and Taipei .
On Monday, the Taipei Times reported that Taiwanese distributor Xander International had discovered that 1,800 Maxtor Basics 500GB hard drives were affected, all manufactured in Thailand.
When contacted by IDG News Service on Monday, Seagate offered few additional details on the problem, except to say that it was investigating the cause of the infection and that it was offering a 60-day free trial of Kaspersky's anti-virus software through the Seagate Web site. "The trial version of the Kaspersky anti-virus software is capable of identifying and removing the virus," spokesman Forrest Monroy said via e-mail.
The virus scans the hard drive for password information on World of Warcraft as well as a number of Chinese games such as QQ, WSGame, and AskTao, Seagate said.
Trend Micro researcher Paul Ferguson said that while the password-collecting servers may appear to be located in China, they are actually located in Dallas and Korea.
Customers can contact Seagate customer support to find out if their particular drive is infected.
This isn't the first time that subcontractors have been blamed for virus infections on storage media. A year ago, Apple shipped a number of video iPod systems infected with a virus. The company blamed a contract manufacturer for the problem.
Security experts say that it's easy for this kind of thing to happen if one PC in the testing, manufacturing, and quality assurance chain is infected. In the iPod video case, the hard drives were infected with a Windows-based virus.

My past Weekend!!!
Past weekend, i had a BLAST. It was the most funfilled moments in Santa Cruz. From home, we drove to BigShur. BigShur was around 2 and half hours drive from home(Chestnut). The only thing it surprised me is that BigShur is a town but it didn't look like a town for me. There were houses, small motels, shops which looked like some temporary spots on turnouts but i was wrong. It were these small shops and motels near main roads, on every half mile which as a whole was town. Before i went to Bigshur, i was thinking it must be settled on wide valley like ground surrounded by small beautiful mountains. That wasn't the truth.
Oh.. before heading to BigShur, whole day, we enjoyed our lunch at our relatives. Deejay and Sonam were two cute bro and sis with whom i passed quite entertaining time. They were both bright and funny.
Andd.. later, in the evening back to home, i did enjoy at fun park which is just 15 minutes walk away from home. I finally touched the sea. wheww.. it's cold...too cold. how do those santa cruz surfers surf on those surfs till late night.?
Fun park is right on the way of boardwalk and wharf. After enjoying, clicking photos at fun park, i returned and on the way back to home, some cute couples were dancing. I wish i could join, cos everyone was doing same but i felt reluctant to go and dance with some other people. So, i watched them dancing..beat was quite nice. I enjoyed seeing them dancing. Wow..whatta evening.. and yeah.. i was scared to death when i entered the ghost house at park. That night, i couldn't sleep well. How would you react if some ghost grabbed you from behind, and a beheaded head fell right ahead of your face making "whooooooooooooahhhh" sound..?? i nearly screamed.. but i just kept shouting.. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH".. that's not scream, yet.. okie? geez.. somehow, i made to exit.
(my photos at funpark inside)

Everything about Telephony
These are really interesting facts about how the information and communication technology has evolved. Starting from Car-Sized mobile telephone to now slimmer than pencil width and shorter than palm, cellular phone, is something to really wonder about. Let's operate how it has evolved and what are the terms and technology used till date.
1. A soft modem is software that performs modem functions using the computer's CPU rather than in modem hardware.
2. A Yagi antenna, also known as a Yagi-Uda array or simply a Yagi, is a unidirectional antenna commonly used in communications when a frequency is above 10 MHz
3. Bluesnarfing is the theft of information from a wireless device through a Bluetooth connection.
4. Bluejacking is the practice of sending messages between mobile users using a Bluetooth wireless connection.
5. In computer jargon,'cocooning' is the act of hiding oneself from the normal social environment , which may be perceived as unfriendly or unwelcome.
6. Cloaking is the masking of the sender's name and address in an e-mail note or distribution.
7. Hacktivism is the act of hacking, or breaking into a computer system, for a politically or socially motivated purpose.
8. The popular phrase'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' was the first message sent between the Kremlin and the White house, when testing the hotline telex. That phrase contains each of the letters of the alphabet at least once.
9. Hayes Corp. produced the first modem that used the common AT command set.
10. Britain implemented its 999 emergency telephone system in 1937. The first 999 call reported a burglary; the burglar was apprehended.
11. The 911 emergency telephone system was developed by AT&T in the US as a public service.
12. Touch-tone service was first introduced commercially in the US in 1963, but took almost 10 years to gain widespread use.
13. On June 3, 1880, Bell transmitted the first wireless telephone message on his newly-invented 'photophone'. The device allowed for the transmission of sound on a beam of light.
14. Bell's photophone is recognised as the precursor of modern fibre optics, which today transport over eight percent of the world's telecommunications.
15. In 1970, a team of researchers at Corning Glass Works in New York made fibre optic communications a reality. Using fibre-optic wire which could carry 65000 times more information than copper wire.
16. Nearly all of the more than 25 million kilometre of fibre-optic wire installed in the US today is based on the first "optical Waveguide Fibres" designed by Corning Labs' Robert Maurer, Donald Keck and peter Schultz.
17. Digital modems developed from the need to transmit data for North American Air Defence during the 1950s.
18. The first commercial modem was AT&T's Bell 103, manufactured in 1962. It had full-duplex transmission, frequency-shift keying or FSK, and a speed of 300 bits per second or 300 bauds.
19. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell filed patents for the telephone within hours of each other. Bell got there first, and later won a legal battle against Gray.
20. The electric telegraph was born in 1830 when an American named Joseph Henry sent an electronic current over one mile of wire to which caused a bell to strike.
21. Though Samuel Morse gave a public demonstration of the Morse Code in 1838, the Congress funded $30000 to construct an experimental 40 mile telegraph line from Washington to Baltimore, only five years later.
22. The message " what hath God wrought?" was the first official message sent in Morse Code on May 24, 1844 from the old supreme court chamber in Washington to Baltimore. The basic concept of cellular phones began in 1947, when researchers looked at crude mobile car phones and realized that by using small cells- range of service area- with frequency reuse they could increase the traffic capacity of mobile phones substantially. However at that time, the technology to do so was nonexitent.
23. Despite incredible demand, it took cellular phone service 37 years to become commercially available in the United States. Consumer demand quickly outstripped the 1982 system standards. By 1987, cellular telephone subscribers exceeded one million and the airways were crowded.
24. In the 1970s the very first cordless phones were introduced.
25. In 1986, the Federal Communications Commision or FCC granted the frequency range 47-49 MHz for cordless phones. In 1990, this became 900 MHz. In 1994, digital cordless phones, and in 1995, digital spread spectrum, were respectively introduced.
26. In 1998, the FCC granted the frequency range of 2.4 GHz for cordless phones. As of 2003, the upward range was 508 gigahertz.
27. A Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for the Asia Pacific region was originally proposed at the APPCCIRN (Asia-Pacific Coordinating Committee for International Research Netwroking) meeting on 13 january 1993. It was the precursor of APNIC ( Asia Pacific Network Information Center). The 1st APNIC meeting was held at Cheraronkon University, Bangkok, Thailand, on January 16 and 17 1995.
28. On April 30, 1996, APNIC was registered in Seychelles as non-profit international organisation.
29. The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), whose authority it is to manage the IP address space in use in North and South America, the Caribbean and sub-saharan Africa began operations on December 22, 1997.
30. In october 1998, the US government appointed a private organisation called Internet corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to verse the opening of the Domain Name Registration system to other completing companies.
31. The Domain Registry at the Information Sciences Institute for the University of the southern California administers the top-level domain 'us'.
32. ADSL, the most widely-used DSL standard in the US, can download at speeds between 1.5 and 9 Mbps, and can upload at speeds between 16 and 640Kbps.
33. 3G, short for "third generation", refers to wireless techonologies designed for high speed voice and data transmission. It promises performance that's hundreds fo times faster than today's technology.
34. The fastest type of internet connection is the T3 which can go up tp 44Mbps. Of course, they're used mostly by ISPs.
35. The first commercial modem was the Dataphone from AT&T, in 1960.

BIGNEPAL - EVERY NEPALI's INTERNET HOME
Set out on July, 2005, BIGNEPAL has left an impact among all the Nepalese living abroad and within the country. It is acting as the network hub among all Nepalese who are spread out of their motherland. Interestingly, BIGNEPAL as an internet domain has been created by a Nepali living in United Kingdom. We, Nepalese, always love our country irrespective of corrupted leaders ruling our country and defaming it's all good values. BIGNEPAL has stood it's ground on this regard. So, what is BIGNEPAL? Good question.
BIGNEPAL, literally, is a domain (as i wrote earlier) www.bignepal.com
To write about bignepal.com, well, it's the concoction of every online activities one could be involved into online. There is a reason behind this. To bring all Nepalese into one place, to share our Ideas, knowledge, to make new friends, to promote Nepali connection worldwide utilizing the latest technology available and so. That doesn't mean, it's not limited to Nepalese only, anyone who loves Nepal and Nepalese could be part of this junction.
Now, let me analyze each and every thing of BigNepal.Com. BigNepal is a forum(http://bb.bignepal.com/). BigNepal is an online portal(http://www.bignepal.com/). BigNepal is a ChatRoom(http://www.bignepalchat.com.np/chat.php). BigNepal is a social networking site(fulbari.bignepal.com). BigNepal is a Bloggers blogden. BigNepal is Dating spot(http://bigdate.bignepal.com). BigNepal is repository of Nepalese only videos(drishya.bignepal.com). What else. It's all in one package stuff. However, as i said earlier, it still needs to reach it's maturity and i can see, it's growing day by day.
The first thing which caught my attention is their forum. Very gentle and sober people writes their stuff and eqaully being commented out by genuine visitors. But at times, there are very few kiddie users, who crawl the forum, write their stuff of their own imagination and it's kindda repelling for user like me who always is seeking serious ideas and suggestions. Still, the topics are nicely laid and one can promptly jump into the topics and put his/her own opinion and seek the best help/suggestion one could get.
I won't recommend anyone for chat but if you are directed to kill your boredom, one can jump onto it. But, one must prepare himself/herself how to behave on chat. Since, chatrooms are generally filled with illogical offenders, one has to be ready for that too. Make one's mind in such a way to accept things like that, then one will get nothing but fun. I've to admit, there will be no serious discussion on chat rooms. It's just trash talk about trash topics. Whatever, it's fun. One can make new friends, new contacts and it all depends at how one presents himself/herself there.
There is Nepalese version of Hi5 too called fulbari.bignepal.com. I think it's a social networking concept and i'm sure everyone knows, how it works. Put one's photo, write in details , hobbies, interests, blah blah and other party , if interested would leave comments, makes friends, invites friends and so. Pure Nepali Social Networking. I'm sure you will love this one.
BigNepal also has dating junction. People put their profile and people watch profiles, and one can fix date and continue contacts with the person having similar taste, choice and preference.
Drishya(drishya.bignepal.com) is BigNepal's pure Nepalese Video repository site just like Youtube. I've seen interesting videos related to Nepalese Music and culture, entertainment etc. It's a great spot for video uploaders and viewers.
Despite all these features, the only thing which bothered me is their lack of integration between the features they've installed. Under the single name BIGNEPAL, the features it has provided feel like it's not owned by BIGNEPAL. Precisely, what i meant is, the user account that i created on Forum won't work on Fulbari. The user account I created on Fulbari won't work on Drishya and so. This is too much of annoyances. I really had to create accounts using almost 3 of my different emails. Finally i gave up. I hope they integrate the same user account with all the features they provide and give access to him/her into one single first signup instead of showing message like below:
"
Sharing your thoughts on Bigboard Forum has never been any bad experience. Unfortunately for the security reason, we have to create another user ID to login in BB
"
and BOTTOMLINE: Visit bignepal.com , you won't regret at all!!!

My another rambling on Halloween
This post is supposed to be made on Nov 1 but i got little disoriented due to my other businesses in real life.
Trick or Treat!!! this is one single phrase that is so popular among people during Halloween season(Halloween is always on Oct 31, no matter on which day it falls). I really have no precise idea on what Halloween is and why it is celebrated(i think one can search wiki for that). I'm sharing my own experience of this festival here in Santa Cruz. I even don't know how it's celebrated all across the United States. One thing i came to know though, is that it's not limited to USA only. I mean other people from other countries also celebrate this festival like UK,Some European Country, etc. What i saw is people put the Pumpkin outside their houses, pumpkin carved in such a way that it looks like some funny smiling character. Obviously it's made hollow from inside and dim candle light lit inside, it's clear after evening. Kids wander around their known ones houses, they knock the door, they say 'Trick or Treat' and house owner simply says something good about the kid's clothing or attire and then house owner gives some candy and sweets in the bag which is put opened wide by those kids. It simply looks and feels like 'TIHAR'(Light festival in Nepal where people worship goddess of Money,'Laxmi'..just like Deusi-Bhailo). I could see so many groups of kids darting around. Well, this is one aspect of the festival.
I was told that in downtown, people comes with strange attire and dressups, they make procession, they sing, they dance and blah blah blah.. That really sparked interest on me to watch this Halloween Festival on downtown. So, i headed to downtown and when i saw those people. Really, guys.. their attire was totally shocking. Some were almost naked. I saw two girls on sidewalk french-kissing each other and bunch of drunk guys wooing on them. As i kept walking, i saw some woman with naughty attire and exposing something private. They all were totally boozed. What else, i saw Elvis Presley(my idol) on the road, Big Hulk, dead corpse, dead princess, Jesus, jugglers, street bands, Frankenstein, blah blah.. Almost all were totally dressed up uniquely. In all these experiences, what i witnessed is the indecency. Most of them were totally freaked out, drunk. And yeah, i remembered, when i saw these get ups of people during Halloween, I was compelled to think Is it GAI-JATRA(Festival in Nepal where people dress up with strange clothes and make up. It's main theme is to celebrate it as a cow festival to offer peace on their passed away guardians.) of America?
Whatever, i concluded Halloween as the mixture of Nepalese Gaijatra and Tihar. And, i really enjoyed it but got little offended with the people presenting themselves in this festival.
I've taken some pictures of the Halloween festival on Santa Cruz downtown. Hope some may like it.

Scanners and Printers
Today, i'm writing facts and figures about computer peripherals, precisely about printers and scanners. It's really fascinating to know about the technology we use day to day.
1. A Page Description Language(PDL) is a language that enables applications to control HP Desk Jets, Laser Jets, and other HP printers.
2. Printer Control Language (PCL) is a language that enables applications to control HP Desk Jets, Laser Jets and other Hp printers.
3. The name Epson for the popular brand of printers was coined when the subsequent models of their first printer 'Electronic Printer 101' were called 'SOns of Electronic Printer'.
4. HP's first Inkjet printer was launched in 1984.
5. A Dichroic Mirror is an interference filter that reflects a specific part of the spectrum, transmiting the rest. It is used in scanners.
6. Airport scanners in the UK will soon be able to capture naked images of travellers, even underneath several layers of clothing.
7. When desktop scanners were first introduced, many manufactures used fluorosecent bulbs as light sources.
8. Before desktop scanners, colour pre-press companies used drum scanners, which were expensive and difficult to operate.
9. The inventor of the scanner is Robert S. Ledley, who patented the whole-body CT(computerised tomographic) diagnostic X-ray scanner. He was a professor of physiology and biophysics and of radiology, and he was the first to do medical imaging and three-dimensional reconstructions.
10. TWAIN is an image capture API ( Application-program Interface) for Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating Systems. The standard was first released in 1992, and is ratified at version 1.9 as of January 2000. TWAIN is typically used as an Interface between image processing software and a scanner or digital camera
11. A CD-RW disk can, in general, be re-written about a thousand times. In contrast, a hard disk can be written over virtually an unlimited number of times.
12. A flatbed scanner is designed for scanning prints and other flat artworks. Most have a glassbed or 'platen', on which the original is placed, on the top of a box containing a light source and photo sensitive receiver, usually a CCD (charge coupied device) array or a CIS( Compact Image Sensor), a single row of Photocells. Older scanners were often monochrome only, but now all are ' three colour' RGB devices using separate photocells to measure red, green and blue light.
13. George J. Laurer is considered the inventor of the UPC or Uniform Product Code, invented in 1973. The UPC symbol set for barcode recognition is sitll used in USA.
14. The firsr UPC scanner was installed at a Masrsh's Supermarket in Troy,Ohio, in June 1974.
15. The first patent for the bar code-US Patent #2612994- was issued to inventors Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver on October 7, 1952.
16. Jacob Rabinow was the inventor fo the 'Reading Machine', an automated scanning and sorting appliance which scanned printed material and compared each character to set of standards in a matrix, using for the first time, the 'Best Match Principle' to determine the original message.
17. The simplest 3D scanners often use physical contact using highed arms. The depth is then calculated by measuring the orientation of the ranged object at the instant of contact.
18. Possibly the first known example of biometrics in practice was a form of finger printing being used in China in the 14th century as reported by explorer Joao de Barros of Portugal.
19. In the 1890s an anthropologist and police desk clerk in Paris named Alphonse Bertillion sought to fix the problem of identifying convicted criminals and turned biometrics into a distinct field of study. He developed a method of multiple body measurements, which got named after him-Bertillionage.
20. The modern fingerprinting technique, which was developed by Richard Eward Henry of Scotland Yard, essentially reverts to the same methods used by the Chinese for centuries.
21. When the CD was being invented, it was decided that a CD should be long enough to hold Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at any tempo-precisely 72 minutes.
22. EyeDentify, a Belgian company founded in 1976, developed The EyeDentification 7.5 personal identification unit, the first retina scan device made for commercial use, in 1984.

Professor of Physics,Khon-Thon Tsen at Arizona University and his son, have developed a laser technology that could kill virus without harming human cells. When i was reading first line of this news at wired, i was thinking this could actually kill HIV virus too. My guess was right. As i kept reading on and on, these two father and son are giving their day and night on experimenting how to deal with HIV virus. If this groundbreaking laser experiment goes successful, there would be a ray of hope for HIV victims. But this is going to take little bit of time according to them.
"We have demonstrated a technique of using a laser to excite vibrations on the shield of a virus and damage it, so that it's no longer functional," said Kong-Thon Tsen, a professor of physics at Arizona State University. "We're testing it on HIV and hepatitis right now."
