THE BEST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007

THE BEST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 to all of my readers. My 2007 year had been the worst year of my life. And, i wish nobody had days/months or say year like that. May this coming New year 2008 bring all the happiness and joy to your life. GOD BLESS ALL OF US.

ahhh.. 2007 introduced us so many innovative products and technology. I was like WOW when i came to learn about them.

Gordon MooreWe all know, according to Moore's law, every 2 years, CPU's processing power will get doubled. But, these days, every 6 or 8 months, some bits of power is being constantly added to processing power of computer. So, it's not much of concern to me to state some high speed latest CPU and feature-loaded motherboards as the best product of the year or so. From single CPU to, Dual Core to Core 2 Duo to Quad core CPU, need for more power and speed is growing. I know it's going to grow more and more till the day when every common home user is not messing around with today's Super computers. I've also seen and read about prototypes of future computing. Few of them are like the concept of wearable computer, fuel cell(to backup days or may be months of worry-free extended use of any gadget at single charge),breakthrough plasma screens technology, apple iPhone, microsoft surface etc. They are not released yet.

But the most innovative product which is about to change the history, the way people are accustomed to is AMAZON KINDLE. This is just my mere thinking and i believe in it. I'm kindda guy who observe tech products and newer technology with full conscience and try to analyze them with the perspective of benefit for entire mankind. iPhone,vista,surface,n50.. these are not the best products for me, they are the most hyped and marketed gizmos and it is for sure the people would flock to get on the queue midnight before the sale next morning. I would call them, best hyped product of the year rather than best product. Of all, i admit iPhone is pretty good phone with the touchscreen and with elegant look but that wasn't too alluring for me. TouchScreen is not the new technology and TouchScreen is not Apple's patented technology. And, iPhone is not the best tech product of 2007.

My vote for BEST TECH PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007 goes to AMAZON KINDLE: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device. Kindle is about to change the way we read books. I'm sure, paper books will be replaced by gadget like Kindle and this mini-notebook sized gadgets surely gonna draw lots of attention in coming days. Paperless reading is indeed a good for environment, and i wish people stop cutting trees and make paper out of it.

To know more about what/how/where about this eco-friendly Kindle, kindly check the video below:
Meroguff votes AMAZON KINDLE as the BEST TECH PRODUCT of the year 2007

Few months ago, i was fascinated with the similar ebook reader called iRex iLiad mobile eBook reader and wrote about it. But it had some drawbacks.

And, THE WORST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007??? i better not write about it. Nobody takes initiatives to be the WORST. It's just being unfortunate and not being upto the expectations. Reading Best and Worst tech products of the year all around the Internet is fun. I don't know how much did they get to put some product at TOP or how much they didn't get, it's all within them or may be my speculation is just mere the figment of my imagination, i'm no way related to any company and am not accusing anyone. I'm not endorsing any product of the company either. I'm just endorsing the idea behind the technology. It's not out of scope to think that very soon(may be within few centuries) we're having cars which could fly, doing inter-planetory travelling.. this is again speculation of my wild imagination...

That said, once again HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR and May all your wishes be fulfilled.

$85000 Cell Phone Bill a Month???

$85000 Cell Phone Bill a Month???

What would you do if your cell phone's bill for one month exceeds $85000. Well, technology is boon for many of us but curse for people like Piotr Staniaszek(22 years old Canadian) who was oblivious to the rising bill of his phone.
It's not because of the calls/SMS he made back and forth, it's because, he used his cell phone as modem and downloaded tons of stuffs off the internet. Thinking good of what he did, he kept surfing but downloading more and more. He never ever thought of the bill he got.

"Here, I'm $85,000 over and nobody bothered to give me a call and tell me what was going on." he lashed out to his phone company.

He normally was paying not more than $150 a month for his cell phone use(without using phone as modem). WOW..that's way too much for me. Unlike, I paid only around $20 per month to MeroMobile(privately owned telecom in my country) which gave me unlimited internet and downloads. I used my cell phone as modem then and it was good service. I still advocate for MeroMobile because of their genuine services.

Well, when i read stuff like this, i can't help laughing. Because, at least one has to have a good grip on what he's doing. If one doesn't know what he's doing, he is at stake of uncertainties. May be it's his cellphone company's fault too by not informing him at time about the rise in bill. But guess what, his cellphone company did try to inform him about the bill of $65000 and he thought it was some sort of errors as he was told something implying that way. He didn't care and kept downloading on and on. And, there came $85,000 bill knocking his door.

Unlucky fellow, on his defence, he only had to say,"I told them I wasn't aware I would be charged for hooking up my phone to the computer. I'm going to try and fight it, because I didn't know about the extra charges."

But whatever, their telecom bills are exorbitantly high as compared to other countries.

Arabian blogger jailed

Arabian blogger jailed

I don't know, why and how, i feel some kind of connection with the bloggers around the world. When i read news about bloggers being victimized, some sort of unhappiness engulfs within. I'm writing about a blogger who's jailed practically for no criminal reasons but just for blogging, blogging against his own society's dirt in the hope he could make people aware and bring some good changes. But alas!!! The only guilt of this Arabian blogger, and IT professional Fouad Ahmed al-Farhan, 32, was that he criticized the extremism society of his autocratic government. We all know how restrictive and abusive muslim society is. And, he is victimized, his freedom to speak and write has been abused. He didn't write for terrorism, he didn't promote illegal activities what he did was he wrote against the negative things about political leaders. Critically analyzed his own system, wrote to make people aware of what's wrong and what's right. He tried to lit the ray of hope for his own kind by trying to tell them what's cooking inside his system, how real islamic values are being slowly superseded, how extremist they are becoming day by day, where is the freedom, sense of security, equality and where is the justice. He might have thought, leaders might change their attitude and working pattern and realize how their people were thinking about them. But, he couldn't change some bad things about his system instead, they changed him and must be persistent to change him by forcing him to sign on an Apology letter.
He was arrested on December 10 and since then, he's unheard and unnoticed. Few days before he got arrested, he managed to send an email to his friend and that's how we all bloggers around the world knew about his arrest. His email was like below:

I was told that there is an official order from a high-ranking official in the Ministry of the Interior to investigate me. They will pick me up anytime in the next 2 weeks.

The issue that caused all of this is because I wrote about the political prisoners here in Saudi Arabia and they think I’m running a online campaign promoting their issue. All what I did is wrote some pieces and put side banners and asked other bloggers to do the same.
he asked me to comply with him and sign an apology. I’m not sure if I’m ready to do that. An apology for what? Apologizing because I said the government is liar when they accused those guys to be supporting terrorism?

To expect the worst which is to be jailed for 3 days till we write good feedback about you and let u go

there may be no jial and only apologizing letter. But, if it’s more than three days, it should be out. I don’t want to be forgotten in jail.” hat there is an order from a high-ranking official in the Ministry of the Interior to investigate me. They will pick me up anytime in the next 2 weeks.

His blog which is in Arabian language, seems to be run by his friend because there is a big FREE FOUAD banner at his blog. Pleading everyone to support his sooner release campaign. LET's Support and vow together for his dignified release.

Me and My blog's New look for the New Year

Me and My blog's New look for the New Year

Finally Christmas season is over but still New year season is just in front of the door. I really needed a change, change in terms of my blog's look. And,it was kindda boring to see the same common outlook whole year. I was trying to find new Look for new year. I stumbled into many sites and links for the new skins but couldn't find one that could satisfy my need. And, i didn't have time to learn and design my own theme. Finally, i found a new skin suitable for my need. I'm 'blue' lover and it's been favorite color for whole life and it still is. The most noticeable thing about this skin is abundance blue. It gives me some sort of internal sense of pleasure and relaxation. For me, blue is normally an emblem of peace, calmness and serenity. Since my nature as a human being resembles much to those attributes i just mentioned, i'm unknowingly related to this color and i'm glad that i chose this skin, customized it the way i want and thanks Erica Akira, who did this wonderful job of putting such nice skin on web.

Unluckily,.. wrapping up this new skin to my blog had been a tiresome job. It didn't go as i thought. Actually, I backed up my old template as normal process, thought widget backup would be there. So, i installed new template, it warned me, it's going to delete old widgets, i didn't care much and confirmed. New skin loaded, started 'dreamweaver' engine, put my old template backup on it and was just ready to ride on but everything seemed lost. No single information on widget was there on my template backup. I don't know if it's my stupidity or what, i was speechlessly messing around with my empty widgets of my old template. I again uploaded the same old template, thought there would be backup, but no?? actually, all the widgets data had been deleted from the blogger server. There were only empty widgets. I didn't lose hope,i loaded again the new skin after so many unsuccessful attempts because, it was crashing crashing and getting some stupid error message. Finally, had to search web for help and deleted all empty widgets one by one, created new one and had to fill data on it. This time, i did take google's help. 'cache:http://www.meroguff.com' took me to my blog's old state from where i downloaded the source of my site and re-entered all the scripts manually one by one. That was hectic.. real hectic. Things don't go as we dream. Do they? Watever, i'm happy that i did go through all the hassles without a worry and panic and finally it's done. NEW LOOK of MY BLOG for NEW YEAR. I'm proud of myself.. hahahaha. just kidding. Don't think please, i patted myself. That would be like being as eccentric as Mr bean.

And,..
Since this was my first Christmas, i didn't know much about it but now, after I got lots of gifts, i did know that people give a lot of gifts to each other during this season. I also came to know that people spend much during these days. Though, I didn't give any gifts except my well-wishing since i wasn't much aware of it. I just went invited, dined, enjoyed and lastly, i'm presented with wonderful gifts. Next year, it's my turn to give them my gifts during this season. Thanks everyone.

Few glasses of Red wine and i was mildly but feeling beautiful relaxing dizzyness. Even cold shivering winter turned down and i felt so cozy at that moment. Later in the evening, I did some experiments on my own photographs which were taken the day before. That day, we hiked 4 hours and it was new mountain for me. As usual, i had my digicam with me and had my brother to take strange pictures of mine. Actually, i never intentionally known that i would end up making fun of my own photos this way. But, whatever, i liked the things i did during the wine effect. May be i wanted new look on my overall body too. It's New year behind the door.

Some people often wonder why on earth some guys like me carry camera all the time? simple, i love shooting. You never know what you are going to shoot. I'm always in hunt to catch that extra-ordinary happenings/sights/scenes into my digicam's lens. And, that passion drives me to click on and on. Who knows, i could be taking shot of UFO, or i could be taking shot of 'sex on the beach' or i could be taking shot of ' my own world,my own imagination'..

If you are sick and tired of watching my photos(but this time really strange jeez), please don't look any further below , else most welcome!!!
HIIIIII, my name is Navin the Mr. Elephant

Real questions and stupid answers

Boyfriend : "Dead Sure! I checked the whole list again yesterday".

Teacher : "What do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?"
Pupil : "A teacher".

Waiter : "Would you like your coffee black?"
Customer : "What other colors do you have?"

Teacher : "Sam, you talk a lot !"
Sam : "It's a family tradition".
Teacher : "What do you mean?"
Sam : "Sir, my grandpa was a street hawker, my father is a teacher".
Teacher : "What about your mother?"
Sam : "She's a woman".

Teacher : "Now, Sam, tell me frankly do you say prayers before eating?"
Sam : "No sir, I don't have to, my mom is a good cook".

Patient : "What are the chances of my recovering doctor?"
Doctor : "One hundred percent. Medical records show that nine out of ten people die of the disease you have. Yours is the tenth case I've treated. The others all died".

Teacher : " Can anybody give an example of COINCIDENCE?"
One Student : "Sir, my Mother and Father got married on the same day and at the same time."

Teacher : " George Washington not only chopped down his father's Cherry tree, but also admitted doing it.
Now do you know why his father didn't punish him ?"
One Student: " Because George still had the axe in his hand."

BOY : May I hold your hand?
GIRL : No thanks, it isn't heavy.

GIRL : Say you love me! Say you love me!
BOY : You love me...

GIRL : If we become engaged will you give me a ring??
BOY : Sure, what's your phone number??

GIRL : I think the poorest people are the happiest.
BOY : Then marry me and we'll be the happiest couple

GIRL : Darling, I want to dance like this forever.
BOY : Don't you ever want to improve??

BOY : I love you and I could die for you!
GIRL : How soon??

BOY : I would go to the end of the world for you!
GIRL : Yes, but would you stay there??

SHARON : Have you ever had a hot passionate, burning kiss??
TRACY : I did once. He'd forgotten to take the cigarette out of his mouth

Nepal to go REPUBLIC

Nepal to go REPUBLIC

Finally some rays of hope seems digging in. My country has gone through lots of turmoil. It was indeed a time for some initiatives, some change. I really hated top leaders for making my country their playground of their own benefit and selfishness. I always wondered, why couldn't they stand up from their party and do something for country? Country's benefits should've been their top-most priority than Party's. But whatever, finally, i see some hope. Because, to save their grounds, they have to go with people's decision and they passed an agreement to declare NEPAL a people's country, Great Republic Nepal. It's gonna take some time though. Because, there had been so many good promises made and laws passed but not implemented properly.
After further cabinet meetings, date for Constituent Assembly Election would be fixed and the first meeting on the Election will stamp the validity of Republic Nepal. For now, Nepal will be declared 'Republic' on papers and Book of temporary Constitution. The deal will be considered sealed when Election date is fixed and first meeting of the entire representatives in the Assembly will be held approving all the commitments they made previously.

Lets hope for better Nepal. JAI NEPAL!!!

How to remove " Sujin.com.np " browser Hi-Jack Worm

How to remove " Sujin.com.np " browser Hi-Jack Worm

" Sujin.com.np " seems to be recent headache to many of the users within the country(NEPAL) and some part of the world around. Instead of calling it Virus, i would better call it "Browser HiJack worm". It couldn't infect my Vista and when i checked the Code of ' Sujin.com.np ' Browser HiJack worm, it wasn't serious threat. Instead it was coded to remove couple of known malwares(ravmon, sxs, winfile, run).
look at the code below
If Fso.FileExists(Drives.Path & "\ravmon.exe") Then
Fso.DeleteFile(Drives.Path & "\ravmon.exe")
End If
If Fso.FileExists(Drives.Path & "\sxs.exe") Then
Fso.DeleteFile(Drives.Path & "\sxs.exe")
End If
If Fso.FileExists(Drives.Path & "\winfile.exe") Then
Fso.DeleteFile(Drives.Path & "\winfile.exe")
End If
If Fso.FileExists(Drives.Path & "\run.wsh") Then
Fso.DeleteFile(Drives.Path & "\run.wsh")
End If

Couple of things it did to intimidate people are:
1. It changed the Browser's homepage to www.sujin.com.np (once, me and my friend thups did the registry hack, taskbar lock to make our site appear as the browser's homepage everytime someone lauched the browser. I didn't know that same idea today, has proliferated into something called as "browser hijack".). Hard to revert it back to default.
2. Every 10 seconds, it seeks the removable drives on host and writes "Autorun.inf" to new removable drives if found, which sets to run 'the code to inject the same browser hijack script' on and on. That's why i called it WORM instead of VIRUS since it tries to propagates itself every 10 seconds without harmful intention.
if Count <> 1 then
Wscript.sleep 10000
end if
loop while Count<>1

3. And, it tried to keep it's VBS code to all the root drives of the system which is of course suspicious and somewhat it changed the registry in doing so. And, that caused it to load many times as a process eating bit of Physical RAM.
Do
If Not Fso.FileExists(SystemDir & "\VirusRemoval.vbs") then
set WriteAll = Fso.CreateTextFile(SystemDir & "\VirusRemoval.vbs",2,true)
WriteAll.Write AllFile
WriteAll.close
set WriteAll = Fso.GetFile(SystemDir & "\VirusRemoval.vbs")
WriteAll.Attributes = -1
End If

My Verdict:

This Sujin.com.np is just a mere browser hijack annoyance which sets the user's homepage to " www.sujin.com.np " and it tries to hijack other peoples browsers by injecting itself to removable drives every ten seconds. So, whoever poped in the Pen Drive or floppy drive, the infected host injected the Hijack script on them. They went to another computer with the infected pen drive and it infected another computer and that's how it seems exploded all over the region.

However, there is no malicious code inside it. The only motive is to set user's browser to 'Sujin.com.np'.

Solutions:

1. My first advise would be disable the autorun feature of your operating system at first. Because, the autorun feature of your system triggered the worm. Here's how:
Here is the step(for XP).

a. Start ---> run --> type "gpedit.msc" without the quotes and enter.

b. we'll be seeing Group Policy Console. There, under Local Computer Policy, there are a)Computer Configuration and b)User Configuration.

c. Since we are to tweak Computer configuration, under Computer Configuration-->Select "Administrative Templates"-->Select "System"--->Turn off Autoplay.

d. Double click that "Turn off Autoplay" option and select "disabled" on next screen.

(This will disable all kind of autorun)
** prevention is better than cure.

2. But, if Sujin.com.np is already resident in the memory, Download SCANNER here

Note: Thanks for your note ,यो मन त मेरो नेपाली हो !!!

Thanks to MangalMan for providing me the "Worm code" to study and analyze.

Microsoft has surprises : SilverLight and IE8

Microsoft has surprises : SilverLight and IE8

Microsoft's main focus for 2008 would be SilverLight and IE8.
And the recent news about IE8 passing ACID 2 TEST is creating lots of hypes/expectations among IE fan and equally among other users. How would IE8 be? What is ACID 2 Test? The people in the picture below are the IE8 developer team. They've answers for most of the queries.
And, SilverLight?? this is Microsoft's launch against FLASH content on web. One may assume, Microsoft is daring to become strong competitor against FLASH. Flash has taken 95% of web market? will Microsoft be able to exist? Time will tell us.

(Those IE8 developer team were Interviewed. Click here for their interview video.)

But for now, i didn't find anything new in Silverlight. I tried Silverlight and it just allowed me to play and pause only. Silverlight has lot lot more to improve. Actually, i came to know about Silverlight from this site jackassworld.com. I've been a huge Jackass movie fan and i regularly check their site and i found they're endorsing use of Silverlight. So, what more? i installed and watched their Latest movie Jackass 2.5(christmas gift) for free using SilverLight. And, sad part!!! this offer is only for US citizens. Sorry guys, you can plea to them. Besides, JACKASS movie could be VERY VERY VERY offending for lots of people out there. PLEASE BE INFORMED that, don't dare to check that movie unless you are persistent viewer of any kind of movies.

Supersize Me

Supersize Me

Morgan Spurlock, director of Academy Award-nominated 2004 documentary film 'Super Size Me' puts himself into 1 month straight consumption of McDonald's fast food without exercising regularly.

Anyone who is sticking with McDonald should watch the following movie. It came to my attention when doctors here told me about the realities of Fast food. My cholesterol level had gone up and caused a bit of arcus formation in my left eye. I was allured to fastfood in America and whenever i got time, i ate those burgers. It's okay now. I stay away from them.

And, i came across this wonderful documentary after searching online. For healthy life, i also found to walk 6000-10,000 steps. Very soon, I'm getting one of those nifty gadget called Pedometer for myself.

Besides i've a message for my Nepalese readers, if you are thinking good thing about Fastfood in USA, stop dreaming and help yourself by ignoring them.

I'm not against any company or their products but when it comes to our life, i've to write them on. Since, it personally affected me, i found this video online and thought to share with my friends.

The following video is more than an hour show and you should watch it how a director experimented with himself.

Super Size Me is an Academy Award-nominated 2004 documentary film, directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock, an American independent ... all » filmmaker. It follows a 30-day time period (February 2003) during which Spurlock subsists exclusively on McDonald's fast food and stops exercising regularly. The film documents this lifestyle's drastic effects on Spurlock's physical and psychological well-being and explores the fast food industry's corporate influence, including how it encourages poor nutrition for its own profit. During the filming, Spurlock dined at McDonald's restaurants three times per day, sampling every item on the chain's menu at least once. He consumed an average of 5,000 calories (the equivalent of 9.26 Big Macs) per day during the experiment.

In February 2005, Super Size Me Educationally Enhanced DVD edition was released. It is an edited version of the film designed to be integrated into a high school health curriculum.

MSNBC has also broadcast an hour long version of the film, in addition to the regular version.

VMware goes freeware

VMware goes freeware

When i tried VMware Workstation Trial many months ago, it wasn't free but when i tried it then, i was astonished to see that it was so reliable and feature packed.

The concept of VMware is to utilize the computing resources without affecting the existing OS's own usability. VMware is the virtual machine/operating system(OS) under any other parent operating system. For example, i've Windows XP installed and i want to try Windows Vista or any other OS distributions like open-source Linux. In that scenario,i could use VMware and install Vista without crippling my windows XP. VMware is a standalone software under any Operating system with the capability to store the other operating systems in it and virtually, we can swap to OS to OS in seconds. This is very helpful for programmers,beta-testers who want to check their softwares under very Operating systems. And, that is how the final product is released. Had it not been there, one has to have several machines installed with different Operating systems in it and try their raw-program individually which would have been a more troublesome and time consuming experience.

Therefore, thank to Virtualisation softwares like VMware. They do exist and now, it is free. You just go to their site, email them, you'll get your personal serial number and voila, you can try as many operating systems as you want without any trouble. If you surf some malicious sites or encounter any virus activities from within your VMware OS, no problem, the virus or malicious script won't come out of it and won't hamper your real OS's environment. So, the virtualisation layer would protect you.

According to VMware, VMware Player is another handy tool. Install VMware server or Workstation, create your Operating system under these, save it as a file and load it with VMware Player. Later you can uninstall the VMware server or Workstation and just use VMware player with the file created by those resource hungry VMware server or Workstation.

To learn more about them, click here
Download VMware Workstation here
Download VMware Server here
Download VMware Player here.

Note: I think VMware is the only solution allowing you to install all kinds of Operating systems available today. Other Virtualisation software wouldn't offer that kind of features.(you can search on Google though)

Toshiba presents First HD DVD-RW Qosmio G40 Notebook

Toshiba presents First HD DVD-RW Qosmio G40 Notebook

Right now, i'm writing these words from my Toshiba Satellite laptop. And, i'm equally excited to learn that the same company is the first ever in the history of computing to release the Notebook with HD DVD-RW drive. I'm sure, people will read the fact sheet in coming decades like "Toshiba released first Notebook with HD DVD-RW drive". Before i rattle on about this humongous beast, one can have a quick look at it's specs:

Toshiba Qosmio G40 Notebook( i could've described in words but some things look good when it's sorted/listed)

-HD DVD-RW drive
-17 inch WUXGA(1920 x 1200) VGA
-2.2GHz T7500 Core 2 Duo processor
-Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT GPU
-400 GB hard drive(2 x 200 GB drives)
-4 GB of System RAM
-2 HDTV Tuners
-1 HDMI-out

Now, the possibilities are immense. Watching high quality HD movies/programs is possible in notebook portable computers. I came to learn that one could easily record the live transmission and shouldn't be really worried about the storage though. I mean this beast has everything new,one could ever imagine in a laptop.

But, it's pricey and bulky, approximately over $3500 and over 10 pounds and you really need to have big pocket and big muscles to handle it. Next week, it's going to be launched in Japan. I don't know and have no idea when it would come to USA or other part of world. My local toshibadirect.com has no info about it.

iPhone turned into 2 mega pixel video camcorder

Someone with the alias "Drunknbass" from MonsterAndFriend has released a unique iPhone application to record video at very high resolution. Right now, it's only able to record 5 seconds of video at 10 fps. But, the development is in process to build the updated application which would record unlimited video at 45 fps. Whatever, it's a nice hack. The following software is the right tool if you want to experiment with your iPhone and the following video shows how people are using their iPhone as HIGH resolution Camcorder..

iGoogle : my new iGoogle theme

iGoogle : my new iGoogle theme

So many people still look at me with dazed eyes when i tell/inquire them about 'iGoogle'. fine, they know google, but igoogle??what the heck is it? Google is for searching things online and they feel proud and content when they say so as if they had known all of it. But satirically, they've no idea on what is iGoogle. When i tell them, google is not only search engine but it's also a complex mathematical and scientific calculator(just disclosing one of google's tentacles, i know google is huge OCTOPUS even larger than 'Kragen' someone has dreamt of and my blog alone would be insufficient to gossip around all of it's features - 'wink''wink'), i become the laugh stock of the crowd. I don't mind and i don't care. Well, coming to the point, i'm writing about iGoogle.

Google has offered us a lot, (mentioning about google page - i really don't like it, very less monthly bandwidth, not even enough to share my files with my chums.) and i won't say iGoogle is offer but it's something which makes us unique. It's like 'SEARCH WITH STYLE' or say 'SEARCH WITH COOLNESS'. Previously, it's 'Google personalized homepage" wheww. whatta long phrase.. but now it became iGoogle.

Yeap, iGoogle is the customizable page offered to you by Google where you can add your favorite google gadgets, themes, etc. Gadgets could be limitless(clock/news/calendar/horoscope/aquarium/jokes/movies and blah blah).Just think of one, and you would be amazed to find one for you. And, today, i thought to write about it, because, i got one very nice theme for my iGoogle from here. It's very suitable and time relevant. It's christmas and cold winter theme. Check below for picture:
Click to enlarge picture and see what's on my iGoogle

Last but important: You need to have gmail account to integrate iGoogle features to normal google page. And, you don't even need to have an invitation to have gmail account. It's no more BETA. Writing just in case you don't know about it. So, sign up a gmail account @ gmail.com.
and http://www.google.com/ig is the door to your iGoogle.
Have fun and good day!!

Unix admin tried to axe power grid

Unix admin tried to axe power grid

A California man pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he shut down the datacenter responsible for managing the state's electrical supply.

Lonnie Denison, 33, is now facing as much as five years in prison and a $250,000 fine after admitting to breaking a glass cover and hitting the emergency "off" switch at the California Independent System Operator (Cal-ISO) data center in Folsom, California, on April 15. By doing so, he shut off the power in the datacenter. He was formerly a contract Unix system administrator at the center.

Cal-ISO is the nonprofit organization that manages California's power. By knocking these systems offline, Denison effectively cut the state off from the energy market, leaving California vulnerable to blackout conditions. No blackouts occurred, however, because the data center went down at 11:23 p.m. on a Sunday -- a time when electricity demand is typically at a lull. "If this deliberate shut-off had occurred in the morning ... things would have been far more severe," wrote Matthew Amant, the California Highway Patrol officer assigned to investigate the incident, in an affidavit.

It's not clear why Denison would have wanted to flip the switch on California's power, but according to U.S. attorneys, he was in a dispute with co-workers and just minutes before the incident had discovered that his computer privileges had been revoked.

Prosecutors allege that he followed up the power outage by sending an e-mail bomb threat the next day to an unnamed Cal-ISO employee, saying, "Hey, at one point I respected you ... you have a new kid. So this is only because of him. Get out before the timer expires. Not long now. Take care."

Following this threat, Cal-ISO evacuated about 500 employees from all three of its Folsom campus buildings, transferring control of the grid to a second control center.

That same day Denison spoke with a friend, admitting that he had tried to "shut off the power grid," according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Sunday night incident knocked the data center down for about two hours, but it took 20 computer technicians about seven hours to fully restore the system. The total cost of the outage is estimated at $14,000.

Denison, of Sacramento, California, is set to be sentenced on Feb. 29, 2008, in federal court.

Ashop Commerce Shopping Cart software review

Ashop Commerce Shopping Cart software review

Gone are the days, when a business firm had to think 10 times before setting up his/her online e-commerce business. Gone are the days, when seller had to spend hundreds of dollars to a middle person just for designing his/her online store. People do pay the cost for owning a web host space/services/features and domain name. In addition to that, they are burdened with extra expenses for setting up their site, putting flesh and muscles to it. Believe it or not, the money they pay to some professionals to set the site up, it's exorbitantly much much more than they pay for owning the space and domain space. Some are adventurous enough trying to figure out things themselves and they try to setup online store for themselves. That's the invitation to the lots of troubles, time wastage, headaches, not properly working site interface, unprofessional look et cetera. Why am i writing all these?? Because, one can't deny the existence of online business. If you buy things from ebay and amazon, then you are already acquainted with the power of e-business. Do you think you can't make sites like one of them?? Do you think you'll have to spend thousands of dollars trying to learn how to setup online stores like that? Well, forget about all the troubles, it's passe.

You can now setup an online store without knowing any html or web programming. Any novice sellers and business entrepreneurs can setup their online store at ease without paying a penny to any middleman. but HOW?? The answer is ASHOP COMMERCE.

Ashop Commerce is a world-class provider of shopping cart software, internet programming and digital imaging who cater toward small to medium sized businesses that are looking to build or simply start their online division of business.

This shopping cart software is extremely easy to use and all you've to do is to work online and set things online. I've never found any ecommerce software like this so easy to work with. I'd also like to add that the 24/7 support team is excellent and one doesn't have to worry about anything. Their comprehensive knowledge base is extremely useful when someone comes across questions. If you are skeptical about how it would be after you pay the money, don't worry. Their free 10 days trial account is absolutely for people like you. One doesn't have to use credit card to get 10 days trial account. It's just sign up and you start working with. You'll realize that they really are worth of your money. So, it's up to you what to do next. If you want to try their service without signing up, you can select their LIVE DEMO pronto and feel how it's gonna be when you buy their service.

Thus, if you are thinking to setup your own business online, then this is the right time not to think but to purchase their service. Don't worry about domain name, web space, shopping cart software etc. Leave all these to them. They'll take care of it. The only thing for one to do is, just put their business and product informations. And the cost is perfectly feasible. Think of the money you would spend on middleman to set all things up for you when you purchase their plan. My verdict is i've never found shopping cart software so easy to setup/use and so affordable.

6455 unique visitors a day

6455 unique visitors a day

Yesterday, i wrote a post and that post alone got 6455 unique hits, this is the highest hits to my blog till date. That means, 6455 people read it. Except my 30 regular readers, rest of them were all the new visitors to my blog.

Hits on my post skyrocketed because, i fired the issue which was contemporary, later became hot issue and almost all Nepalese netizens searched Internet with the almost same combinations of keywords: "Nepalese site hacked" "Nepalese government site hacked" "Nepal hacked" .....

And, my new friend 'nepsydaz' at 'digg' dug my post and it was actually, diggDotcom at the first of the search result(diggDotcom has higher PR than mine ..geez, it's definitely gonna come first). So, whoever searched on above keywords they saw diggdotcom first and almost 90% visitors flocked into my blog after they'd been through the digg of my new friend 'nepsydaz'

My statcounter stat shows 6455 unique visitors/7094 hits/30 returning visitors as on dated Dec 16th,2007

I still remember the days during Indian Idol season, that i usually got approximately 3000 hits per day. Because, then people searched on Net with the keywords "prashant tamang" and they ended up reading at my blogpost most of the time. And, i've to admit that it's not being steady flow of visitors. It just happens occasionally when i write on hot topics or issues. Besides, 200 unique visitors a day is my average usual flow of visitors. I wish i had steady flow of more than 4,000 visitors/readers a day :)

Nepalese Government site Hacked by Iranian Black Hat Team

Nepalese Government site Hacked by Iranian Black Hat Team

Nepalese government has always been disgrace towards it's people. They pass the budget and they don't put it to right use. They buy tons of computers and spend lots of country's money on it. And, they use it just for personal email and playing games during their "Raja ko Kaam , kahiley Jala Ghaam" time. They didn't put much concerns towards online security.

Yesterday, a very talented group(Wanter, Kinglet,$mart,!inf3rN.4Il,Echo) tagging themselves as Iranian BlackHat Team hacked www.nepalgov.gov.np. This group though very talented were fully motivated towards bad intentions, defacing every loophole websites they could find. Mostly big companies, government sites.

While defacing Nepalese Governmeent site, they put some message like this

Right now, may be some moron ministers and his cabinet members or office fellows must be amusing on this incident. For them, it must have been a good subject of gossip for whole day. damn them!!!

After sometime, all the contents wiped out and they put stuff like this. Fully owned by them!!!

And, now the site is totally nulled. Government must have no database at all(this shows how careless are they), most probably, else they would have already uploaded the content. Or, may be they have not yet regained the control from the hackers.

My First Kiss

My First Kiss

I was feeling different that day. It was not like that i had never been out with a lady before but still she was different. It wasn't even a date actually. I just asked if she would like to visit me in the afternoon at my workplace and we could maybe go out for a coffee. I never thought that she would say yes until she gave a thumbs up. Most of the gurls i dated before were blind dates whom i met over the net and they never contacted me after 2 or 3 dates. But oh yeah with her it was a different story. I can never forget the first time we met. I was returning from my college and she too boarded the same mirco bus as mine. She was lilttel freaky because she sat down beside me and she was breaking her fingers and talking to herself. For some unknown reasons i was kindda amazed with this somewhat stupid act and i said " You look beautiful when you talk to yourself" . I dont know how she had felt but i did see her cheeks getting red . Before she got off she handed me a cheat and as i opened the cheat there was her number.

I called her and so started our relationship over the phone but we had not met after that day. I was dressed as usual but unlike before i was concerned about my looks. I was too exicted and anybody who saw me could tell. She arrived at around 1:30 and we went to a nearby coffee shop for a coffee. Finally she broke the silence " Lets go somewhere ". Not knowing what to say i replied "Where????". "Anywhere you want to take me " she said. Where would i probablly want to take here . Seeing me silent for a minute "Godawari Garden????" she asked. I nodded like a small boy and so godawari it was and a half day for me.

I never had to worry about the conversation because she took care of what to say . We were discussing every sort of stuffs form silly " What did you have for luncha today?" to serious matters of life. It was already getting dark , she looked at her watch and said "We should get going, getting late" . It was already 6:30 and we had to go back home though both of us wanted to stay there forever. While returning she asked me to stop the bike. I did and asked why. She asked " When are we meeting again?". As stupid as ever before i replied "I dont know".

She said " You can kiss me if you want". Shoked i was because out of nowhere came the kissing thing. I thought she was joking until she said it again " I know you want to kiss me". Yeha i did but i never expected her to put it that way. While i was thinking she had already closed her eyes and brought her face near to me. I was confused but still her lisp acted like a magnet and in no time i was kissing her. Our kiss lasted for almost tow minutes when we noticed that people passing by were giving us strange looks. "You are a good kisser" she said. I laughed.

Wonderful Day!!!

Wonderful Day!!!

It was wonderful day because today for the first time, i was in some social gathering of my own. Previously, i used to go to such occasions which were actually for my father and I just used to hang around and talk with his friends. But, today, this was my first ever social gathering here in Santa Cruz and i enjoyed it a lot. I just can't explain the moments in words but i really did enjoy the day. Sad part, Merium and Evan, they are leaving back to their country.

(I wish the bird were in the middle when i took the shot)

Merium is Doctor in France, very adorable lady, sober and somewhat enigmatic but i usually enjoyed her company when we were assigned certain assignments to complete in class. She was busy working for some refugee centers in Santa Cruz and now she's leaving after 8 days. Son of this queen of magnetic smile is waiting for her. I just wish her best of luck and happy reunion with her family. And EVAN, wow.. she's such a cute lady who is quite expert in presenting herself by making facial gestures. One thing i noted about her is she always has a logical questions to ask for and i always thought " why didn't i notice that?.. wow" She is German and she is here with her husband Alex. For her, it's nice vacation but i could feel somewhere, that she's quite not happy to leave this place either. At the same time, she's quite happy and anxious to see her homeland. I could see her zeal. And,it was nice meeting with her husband Alex today. I enjoyed talking with him too because co-coincidently once he had been to Nepal and sharing memories of Nepal during the conversation elongated our informal gossips.

I just wished Merium and Evan good luck. And, i wish both of them have wonderful life in their homeland.

It would be injustice to Jennifer if i don't mention her name. She is the mind behind this whole get together event. For me, she's a tactful brilliant event organizer. And, i was like WOW when i came to know about her that she's a Graphic Designer. Moreover, she's kindhearted and very helpful girl. Whenever something comes up, she usually takes the initiative and makes thing happen. Had it not been her effort, i would have never experienced such a wonderful day today. Thanks to Jennifer!!

And lastly, thanks to JOE. For me, when i saw her for the first time, i promptly felt something that i've seen her somewhere. My subconscious took me to the day when i was watching one romantic Korean Movie. There was an actress who was exact copy of Joe!! it's just i don't know the name of korean superstars. else i would've written the name with whom she resembled so lot. JOE, if you hadn't given me a ride, i would have been walking 20 minutes in such a sunny day. Could've been such a hectic moment for me when i would have reached the spot.

Lastly, talking about myself. umm.. my look has changed a bit. I mean the hair-style makes people look totally different. and i think i look very different to myself than before.

and the following photos, they are taken by my camera which is very dull at taking low-light photographs.

A bench and the beautiful horizon

Santa Cruz Light house

Birds flapping their wings to rise in the sky and swing across the region

Beach(Carmel beach)walk

Zoomed actually

With Aunt and brother
