Ascii.co.uk is a website that provides resources and information on ASCII art, which is a form of digital art created using characters from the ASCII character set. The website offers an ASCII art gallery, a collection of ASCII art resources and tutorials, and an online tool for creating ASCII art from images. It also has a section on the history of ASCII art and its cultural significance.

What is ASCII?

ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a character encoding standard that represents text in computers, telecommunications equipment, and other devices. It was first developed in the 1960s and is still widely used today. ASCII uses 7-bit binary numbers (128 possible characters) to represent letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and other symbols commonly used in the English language. The ASCII standard has been extended to include additional characters, such as those used in other languages and special symbols, but the original 128 characters are still the basis of the standard.

The American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) assigns values between 0 to 255 for upper and lower case letters, numbers, punctuation, and other symbols. It is pronounced ask-ee. ASCII codes represent text in computers, telecommunications equipment, and other devices.
